Cars and Job interviews....

Ah, turning up for a new job in a Car wouldn't make any difference. Just get the bus to work! :D

If I had to go to a job interview, I would park round the corner and walk round to where the interview was. Did this for my first ever job, not really sure why I would do this, just one of those things about me....

I think that if you have to use your car for business then it matters, I think if you dont it is crazy to factor any of this into the equation, what kind of boss would not hire someone for having a dirty car if he was right for the job. Who cares? People put too much emphasis on this, its only a machine to get from A to B. :sofahide:

At my interview for my current place, I was asked what I drive and I pointed out the mongrel parked up on the seafront road right outside the office, which had a cracking sea view. :) They seemed suitably impressed, mixed with comments such as "oh, the racey looking one"

Never been asked what I drive in an interview, but I can't see them wanting to go outside to have a look at the car (unless I told them it was a Porsche, Ferrari, etc)

Chris

Not even sure it's legal any longer to ask those kind of questions, it is illegal to ask someone what their living circumstances are etc these days...

It's not been a factor in any jobs I've had, but I could imagine it being an issue in certain jobs.

I'm in IT and the Skoda badge snobbery thing once came into play, I then took the person out for a little drive, not heard anything on that front since ;)

I do feel it is worth cleaning the car a bit to make a good impression IF they are able to see the vehicle. Other places may respond better to using public transport, hard to say without research :)

Id give my car a wash , just to appear that im not a scruffy get! I don't think it should matter to a potential employer what kind of car youve got , unless youre going for a job in the 'enthusiasts' catagory , ie classic car garage etc.

PS Lady Elenore , I'd have been more impressed with the Strada/Ritmo Abarth than the Scooby! ;)

I'm not aware that any interviewer has ever seen my car when I've arrived for an interview, let alone asked about it. They've always seemed to be depressingly interested in my aptitude for the job, rather than my car. Other than making small talk, I can't imagine the circumstances where what car you possess, far less whether it's clean, would make any difference to your suitability for an IT job

My current job i turned up in the monstrosity that was my fiat punto 75sx ( it was red, it was italian.....) dunno if it had any effect....

Come to think of it, I didn't own a car when I got my current job.

Though they did seem impressed when I tethered the zeppelin outside the office.
