Featured Replies

Am looking to renew my pads, wear indicator light just come on.Does anyone know with what degree of urgency I must replace them. Also anyone done this job?No manual from Haynes et al leaves you in the dark.Any tips on what to unbolt or anything else I would be grateful for

Pads, do them ASAP to save possible damage to your Discs.

At the same time you would want to check your disks as you may need to replace these too. Which Octavia do you have.

I asked the question a while ago for FSIII brakes, and these are really easy to change the pads on.

HTH

Haynes have recently produced a manual for the Skoda Octavia - 1998 to April 2004 - ISBN 1 84425 285 X.

Thanks both for the really useful info

They are dead easy to change - take about 30 minutes.

Where are you based?

 If you do the rear pads make sure you wind back the pistons or you will strip the thread for the handbrake.:finger:

There is a Haynes manual for the Octavia. The VW Golf manual that covers the same year as your car will also cover this.

The wear indicator is on the nearside front hub, inner pad. One our Octavia the offside inner pad was down to the metal by the time the wear indicator came on. So, based on my experience I'd advise you to change them ASAP.

Ohhh.... I had a quick glance at mine (2001 Elegance) and assumed it did not have a wear indicator.... I'll have a closer look next time I am under the car (ie. next weekend to check the state of my air con :-( )

Yeah it does have one Mat, as said there is a wire on the front passenger side pad.
