Any probs with TDI 100 lump?

Featured Replies

It has much to do with how you drive it. If you change gears at 2000 rpms it is more likely to blow faster.

Not sure why that would be? Changing up at 2k will drop the revs quite low which will put a strain on the engine and giving it lots of welly below 2k will increase wear on the DMF too....

Any idea why that is? Do you mean shifting up or down at 2k rpm?

I mean shifting up. This will happen if you continue doing that VNT Repair Procedure - TDIClub Forums

I think it has something to do with turbo being constantly spooled up if your revs drop below 1500 rpm which is not such a good thing. We should make a sticky topic about this, it will help a lot with the engine life.

My PD100 has been solid as a rock since I got it. It did run a wee number of horsies more than standard for 20k miles or so (until the tuning box gave up the ghost), now it's back to standard. Managed 72mpg on my return from Bolton this evening, then I dumped all the accumulated soot on a tailgating merc. :D

ive had my 1.9 TDi comfort combi for a year now and its the best car ive had im loving the 55mpg plus the torque and the fact that its just a dream to drive..... :)

Uhhh, just waiting for the bank to get the finger out.

Hope to hear something today. I`ve just seen that we have also got the Tangerine Orange option, anyone have picture of it?

I think it's because it's a variable vane turbo and if the vanes aren't being regularly "opened up" they can get stuck....

You wont regret it, Ive got a pd100 that:

1)has nearly 80k on tthe clock running signifcantly more power than normal

2) 110k in total

3) regularly gets high speed thrashing down the motorway

4) gets seven bells not out of it by learner drivers

5) has an enthusitic owner driver!

I feel that the secret to good running of this engine is two fold.

1) regular servicing by vw specialists with the correct spec oil that has always been the same brand.

2) if it has been driven hard will allow a minimum of 2 minutes idling or at the end of a run the last mile drive only with low revs. This gives the turbo the chance to cool off and get fresh oil in.

Enjoy!
