Mitsubishi L200 - what do you know?

Featured Replies

As per the subject really, what do you know about the L200 range from Mitsubishi? I'm talking about the previous generation.

But without the crew cab.

It's a pick-up truck, that drives like a pick-up truck and goes like a pick-up truck, but has a leather interior.!

Does it look like a Pick-Up Truck...............??..:)

I'm looking at a new one in red :D

Had one as a loan car once, 2.5TD, loadsa fun, good high driving position , quite comfortable, quite good turn of speed for it's size. Judging by the number of them round here they must be pretty good. Every tree surgeon and gardener in Bucks seems to have one.

I'm considering one along with the Nissan navara and Toyota Hilux. I've been driving the works Hilux all weekend and its quite a fun experience - tail happy in the wet though.

Apparently you can remap an L200 though

Also the L200 without the crew cab has a 6ft bed which, is important for what I want.

L200, if it is the Animal edition, already has a remap on it. Takes it to 165 bhp and 302 lb/ft (410 nM) on the manual. I'm looking at getting one as I now live in the Peak and I can get the VAT back on it :D Good for company car tax too

I only have experience of these things in the US, namely the Dodge Ram and Chevy Silverado. The Ram was too big and heavy for its V8 motor, and wasnt much fun.

The Chevy was also a 4.7 V8, but I recall it to be a bit quicker.

While it was never wet out there a combo of all that torque and texan road surfaces meant I had lots of fun getting the back end out in them.

They drive a bit like SUVs, high and wobbly but you feel great sat up there.

I am not sure the MPG will be the best due to the aerodynamics, but much much better than a V8 petrol.

I'd have one (an L200 I mean) in a heartbeat if I had any use for it, i.e. if I was a builder/tree surgeon.

Great fun.

i think it is twinned with the Mazda pick-up that looks very similar and the Ford Ranger , our dealership only sold about 2 of the Mazdas in 3 years ,whereas every other builder has the Mitsibushi , so there must have been better deals at Mitsibushi

Spent a while researching these with a view to getting a bent one & straightening it for a fun vehicle. There were loads in the breakers that had "fallen over" it appears they roll fairly easily. Also certainly the earlier ones didnt have ABS, the Nissan equivalent did, something I would want on a vehicle of that size, lockups must be tooooooo easy

Re VAT you should only really claim it back if the vehicle is used 100% for work which with some jobs is hard to proove, suggest you ask an accountant before going down that route

I have a plausible explanation - I need something that can tow up to 2.5 tonnes for a prospective business venture :D

Landrover 110 :D :D

Not for 30k+ per year

With a load that I guess is as heavy as the vehicle I would def want ABS, a 5 tonne hinged lock up would be fun

True

I like the old one far more than the new one. I think the new one looks somewhat phallic, just from the side it looks too bulbus and round

you saying it looks like a penis on wheels?

I think you need an eye test!

I thought BMW when I saw the advert.

old L200 = awesome

new L200 = horrible

i'd love a crew cab L200 warrior :D

A very good mate of mine is visiting me in his L200 (not sure trim level but defo diesel) this weekend - I'll do a mini review early next week

My dad kindly gave me a loan of one of the previous generation for 6months when i was carless. Non warrior MY2000 but with remap.

Quite fun to drive but VERY prone to locking up the rears. Which is bad in town traffic. Very Bad.

His had the Cab and a half, Crew cab so actualy had quite a short load area.

Leather interior, all electrics etc. Comfy but too noisy. Lots of road noise. Found the engine ok , but just ok, very apparent offroad. Nothing too exciting even with the remap.

We had this one on its side several times whilst offroad. Very prone to a little tipping action. Deffo no match for a 110 or even the HILUX offroad. ( several beasties down the line but now has a 110 doing its job flawlessly )

Would like to have a shot in a new gen one to compare. With the tax, load space of the 2 seater etc id still be tempted if I needed the space / pulling power.

Edit - heard someone at work whom drives a company van rather than car grumbling something about the benefit in kind for vans being removed in april. Any truth in that???

I'd love a Defender for the job but I'd then need to get atrailer for it because they dont do a long enough Defender without going to "special vehicles" which, I really dont want to do.

Good choice, my dads company just got a brand new top spec ford ranger (alloys, leather aircon etc) its allright but man is it slowww, even the works vivaro 1.9 cdti van with two tonnes in it was faster than this. So dont go for that, L200 looks pretty cool tho

Phil,

I have a Mk2 2.5TD Shogun and its mechanically similar..to the older generation L200. Heres a couple of Websites that should give you a better idea of what to look out for if you're thinking of buying one.
