Rain sensing windscreen issue

Featured Replies

I have an issue with my Superb 1.9 Comfort (a few days away from being 1 year old) I have noticed that the wipers will not come on until I make them come on by either spraying the windscreen washer, adjusting the sensitivity of the sensor with the switch or actually swintchng the stalk from manual back to auto. Once the wipers go for the first time, they work automatically after that. EG, If Im driving along with the wipers set to auto and it rains, they will not come on until I force them to start as described above - then they will function automatically. Similarly, if I get in the car and start her up with a wet windscreen, they will not automatically come on to wipe it. Im sure this must be a fault as it is very irritating. Can anyone help - is this normal?

it might well be normal, on our new superb if youve left the wipers on auto when the cars parked you always have to switch them back off & on after starting the car to get them going

Whats the point of that then?

Hardly 'Auto Wipers' if you have to switch them on?

My Mondeo ones work fine without ever switching on or off.

If you look in the manual, I think it says that after the car has been switched off, you need to put the stalk into off position and then back to auto

Yep correct. The Superb's rain sensing wipers need to be put into sense mode from the off position to get them to work after ignition off/on.

At least it has sensing wipers, which also go to double speed if required.

I still fail to see the point if you have to switch them on :ne_nau:

Thats not auto.

I guess the Octy II auto wipers use a different system, as these work from the off without moving the stalk, I wish it wasnt. The reason being, if the screen is iced up I like to start the car before I attack the screen. However if I have forgotten to put the stalk to off, I have found that the wipers try to wipe to clear what it thinks is water. However the blades are stuck to the glass and I dont think it does the blades/motor any good as they try to tear themselves from the glass.

Spot on mate!!

If you have to move the switch then it's not automatic is it.

It's like saying all the lights in my house are automatic if I switch them on every time I come home!

Automatic wipers would not need to be switched on, because they are automatic they will switch themselves on if needed.

Still think your missing the function of 'Rain Sensitive' wipers mate and at the end of the day it's literally one click down and then back up again? Not a lot to do really?!?!

If the stalk is already in the correct position, just twiddling the sensitivity adjuster usually does the trick.

Like you say, no real biggie.

It's all a bit of an effort really:rolleyes:

The auto wipers on my Ren-NO Laguna were the same, until the stopped working altogether, £1,200 got them going again though :o
