Morning,

As some of you know, I bought one of the last Mk1 vRS in March this year. I was wondering if anyone else had Continental Sport Contact tyres fitted as standard? I was asking as when I do a search on the forum for tyres, no-one else has mentioned them and so far I'm pleased with their performance.

Cheers.

My old MK1 had them, but that was a 2001(Y). I guess they use whatever tyres they can get good prices for.

My Focus came with them as standard on the 17s, and again, a decent all round tyre tbh!

Had them on my octy, didn't like them as at the rear the grip was very poor, esp in the wet.

They are OK, but i wouldn't buy them myself. All IMHO of course

i had them on my second fiesta. much better than the firestones fitted to the first one.

currently running some dunlops on my vrs and been very supprised with how they are lasting. 18k and still going strong

Which Dunlops have you got? I've never had a car with them on and am already looking for the replacement set. There are loads of threads I know, but every bit of research helps.

I wasn't impressed by the mixture of Conti eco-contact and Dunlop that were on my last car when I bought it.

Got them on my 2004 Octy vRS, no complaints about them really, and with 23k on the clock still plenty of tread left:thumbup:

I have them on my 2004 octy vrs, rears appear to be original as they are quite worn (3-4mm when I got it) while I'd say the fronts have been replaced prior to my ownership as they were around 6mm.

I haven't had any issues with them apart from a slight fishtailing if hunting through wet lanes, nothing too serious though.

Will be replacing them with 225/45/17's as soon as they are worn out though, probably yoko's or toyos.

Matt,

Unfortunately I haven't really had a chance to test the the tyres to their limit. I usually seem to have the wife or our baby daughter in with me and the commute to work is on mostly straight roads.

I'll keep an eye on other people's progress and their tyres with interest as it is such an expense, I want to make the correct choice.

IMHO Pilot Exalto 2 give a good price, performance, life time combination and are pretty quiet too.

Not convinced. I'd normally rate Michelin as better than Dunlop, but when I bought mine it had Dunlops in front, and Michelins at the back, and occasionally felt "taily" on certain corners. Now fitted Proxes T-1s all round, with a reduction in tyre roar (well worth having with road surfaces as noisy s some up here), and no change in handling.

Which Michelin though Ken?

I had Pilot MXM and they were awful things, very twitchy at the back and the back end would go wide around corners :(

The Pilot Exalto 2 are a completely different kettle of fish, and perform very much like the pilot sports :)

Well, if they were the same as the ex-works spare, they were indeed MXMs; no idea off-hand what the Dunlops were, but might have the bill at home, since I got some bills with the car.

Yeah the MXM are truely shocking IMHO.

Dunlop SP1s!; and that really says it all about just how bad the MXMs are, if they're as bad as Dunlops (I'm going faster to get the oversteer effect out of the T1s, so the experiences do tally up).
