Temp sender location

Featured Replies

Hi sorry about the typical newbie post, I have searched for this but couldn't find anything for the tdi. I have a 97 octavia tdi and the temp guage has given up. I'm looking for a temp sender and can only find the fan switch on the rad or three individual sensors on the block. Am I in the right place? If so any ideas, If not could anyone tell me where to look?

Thanks in advance

John

can you post up a picutre of you engine bay please??

Unfortunatley I don't have a camera here with me, the car is my fiancees brothers, in Slovakia. I'm having to keep pedaling to get on the internet:-)

What i've found so far are three brass connections into the block, with long vertical cable connectors coming off them in a row. It's a new one on me.

On the 1.8T engine it is on the RHS near the top - looking from the front. You should see some water pipes in that area.

The release clip for the dual temperature sender is by my thumb. The sender is just above the clip with wiring out of the top.

On the TDI, if you look at the engine, it is on the RHS at the back near the top.

The actual sensor points backwards, towards the bulkhead.

The clip is a tiny 'C' shape and easy to lose.

There is a common sender for both the ECU and the temp guage on the dash, or are they seperate senders and located in different places?

Its called a dual temperature sender, so my guess is that it provides signals for the engine ECU and the temperature gauge.
