Windscreen Crack

Featured Replies

Mmm, just signed in to get some info on a windscreen crack and the first post I see this morning is Britneys crack:eek:

Anyway, noticed last night that I have a crack running about a foot down my front screen, from the roof heading straight down, just to the right of the rear view mirror.

Anyone know how much a new one is and a good fitter?

Thanks in advance

Lance

Doesnt your insurance policy cover it for a £50 excess?!

Insurance job or i would guess about £300 ish

If it';s coming from the roof area, it might be a warranty issue if the screen maybe wasn't fitted probably and the general stresses the chassis takes from driving and started a crack (when it shouldn't of course)

Any evidence of a chip / impact? Would be a £50/£60 insurance excess thing then - doesn't affect no claims. :)

I have no evidence of a stone hip in mine, but ended up with at least at 18inch crack - the initial 12 inch crack appeared while I was in a meeting one night...., and then gradually grew longer. I waited till my MoT was due before replacing the screen - with RAC autowindscreens did, care of Norwich Union fully comp policy for I think £50.

Thanks all.

There is evidence of impact.

I will check my insurance policy later.

Cheers

I have just had a new windscreen put in by RAC windscreens, got a stone chip on the way home from work, next day 6 inch crack in the screen.

RAC have done a crap job in my opinion and they are coming back to have another look.

The trim down either side of the windscreen on the outside is not fitted well in my opinion and in places it is flush against the screen and others it is not.

Not happy:mad:

Unfortuantely I did not look to see flush things were before the RAC replaced the screen... but it seemed to be ok - and the car passed an MoT 3 hours later!
