Holy Smoke?

Featured Replies

When I start my 2001 110TDI in the morning, I usually get a small puff of white smoke from the exhaust.

My drive in on a slight slope and you get a different amount of smoke dependant on if I park up or down the slope!

Anyway... I noticed today, when I started the car, I had the drivers door open and in addition the the puff of smoke from the rear, I got one from just behind the D.S. front wheel?

Does this mean I must have a hole in the exhaust or in the down-pipe or something?

The engine is a little noisier that usual, I guess??

However, I am still getting 60+ mpg on a run.

I had the Turbo replaced 2 years / 50k ago and it was always a little noisier once it came back.

[Edit] I have just realised I have typed Holly instead of Holy....Doh

Holly is now Holy. HTH. :)

Thanks, that does help, a little.

Some help with the strange emergence of smoke from behind the front wheel would be even better.

Sounds very much like a leak in the zorst. It'll cost you nothing but time to take the car to a fast fit place and ask them to take a look (but ignore anything else they find or point out except tyre wear, since that can't be faked).

Or a leak to the turbo/intercooler.

Intecooler will have dirty air in it from the EGR operating (not sure if it does this cold mind). I'd wonder if they changed the gaskets and used new ones when they put the new turbo on it as an old gasket would probably leak a little (and now a lot).

When changing the turbo your meant to replace all the gaskets... to be honest I would assume that most of the old ones would be in an unusable state once things has been parted....

So would I, but some places are a bit iffy

The turbo was replaced at a main dealer, at a cost of about

at least 12 months and i think it might actually be 2 years.
