Blaupunkt head units

Featured Replies

A few questions re octavia install, sorry!

Has anyone fitted a blaupunkt skyline head unit to an Octavia? Reason I ask is that my mate couldn't get a Sony to fit properly (its too deep), and I notice the Blaupunkt units are also pretty deep.

Also what adapters are needed. Does it need the Blaupunkt VW adapter?

The reason I'm after a Skyline is the automatic equaliser and digital noise covering on the San Fransisco / Bremen head units. Does it works very well though? It's a shame there's no DAB option on it (none planned either according to BlueSpot).

Thinking of mating it to some Rockford Fosgate fnx components up front, and dynomating the front doors. Not fussed about sub/amps/rear speakers.

Finally where are crossovers for the factory fit front speakers? Is it a simple capacitor on the back of the tweeter job?

Thanks!

James.

I have a Los Angeles MP72 fiited...you need the Bluespot adapter.

It's a bit tight round the back of the HU so removing the glovebox will help you manouver the cables out the way.

MP72 also has the auto equaliser but I haven't fitted the microphone yet so, I can't comment on it.

Woodstock DAB52 here, yes its quiet deep but as adrian said removing the glovebox (watch that light) makes life much easier as you can get the cables to go down behind the 2nd din slot.

You will need at least the power adaptor from bluespot.co.uk, and if listening to the radio is your forte you will also need the antenna booster. The power adaptor serves a couple of purposes. 1) it reverses the +ve and switched power feed and also disconnects the so called K wire which connects the OEM headunit to the cars CANBUS. if you leave that wire connected your dealer will not be a happy bunny come service time, and you may or may not experience problems with other CANBUS conntected items (eg. Central Locking).

James,

A bit late in replying - been on holiday and only just now catching up on a few threads ..... Crossovers? - what crossovers ? .... you're right, just a series capacitor glued to the back of the tweeter.

With regards the clearance for the HU - I had to set about the plastic frame work with a pair of side cutters when I did my brother's install. The line outs (RCA type connectors with thick co-ax cables) needed a bit of persuasion to fit behind the HU. As already said, removing the glove box (five screws) makes life at lot easier.

I fitted a Sony HU to my wifes Octy 1.6, it didn't want to slide fully in, but as recommended romve the glove box (if you can find a screw driver to fit the screws) and you can ease the cables ou of the way.

Thanks for the replies. My friend has just tried to fit a DAB53 to his Octy, and can't get it to go back far enough. I'm a bit worried about removing material from behind the head unit as surely its the heater box etc, which with the climatronic would probably cost

If you want snug, try fitting the in-dah changer below the headunit :D

Took a bit of persuasion ;)

I had a Sony HU in my old Octy, seemed to fit ok if a tad tight, but it fitted.

If you want snug' date=' try fitting the in-dah changer below the headunit :D

Is that as in Pakstan? :D

Ok, so there was a misssing s  Wonder where it went? :D

There is no problems with fitting headunits into an Octy. My car has a Pioneer AVH-P6500DVD screen, and this has a mass of cables. No real problems, but removing the glovebox is the easiest thing to do (Torx T20 screwdriver). Anyone got any problems then I'm willing to help out. If you still need a little bit more room for cables then removing the climate panel will help, again remove the trim round the climate module, then remove with the T20 Torx. Pull the module out and you get get your hand up being the audio units with no problems.
