The mongrel's had a facelift.

Featured Replies

I'm pretty chuffed. Car just needs a bit of a clean but I'm happy with the much nicer finish on the bumper, and the carbon bonnet looks very standard until you open it up and can see the weave on the underside. Not a bad facelift for

Jase, that is simply BEAUTIFUL!!!!!:D Ddam that looks great!:)

Silly question tho' - where do you put the front license plate? Or is that not necessary in the UK?

Out here we have to have a full-size front plate, either long rectangle or short fat one........

Nice One

Cheers

Bas

Nice,

Got me thinking........Imagine a black VRS with black carbon bonnet....mmmmmmmm:)

I'm trying to get a "sticker" plate to put on the front bumper... Struggling for ideas of where to go though. The plate is displayed, although in the front windscreen.... Eventually I'll be back again with a plate in the right place.

Looks nice Jason.

Although I am deeply offended by the vRS badge!!!

That looks very nice

As to the plate I think it would look ok on the passenger side, sitting on that bit thats comes out of the bumper a bit.

That's where I want it. :D Tom, sorry mate, The grille came from jabba_luke with the vRS badge on it, and it looks like mr bodyshop man took it off to spray the grille, then stuck it back on again. :D It won't be on for long.

The major thing though is the bonnet lifter isn't working with it. I need a lighter weight strut of the same length as the furby boot strut. Time to start rummaging Ebay.....

Looks good Jason.

I also like the way a fabia bonnet lies flat in the back when there's no seats in. :D Lack of space? Small hatch? PAH!

Just my opinion Jason, but that badge really needs to be at one side or the other, or not there at all, looks a bit awkward in the middle, Rest looks clean though

Aye, the badge will not be there at all soon. I may even sell it. Not sure which badge it is though, as it seems too big to be a normal vRS grille badge.

I think I will take it off a.s.a.p and re-glue my "1.9 TDI" badge on to it. :D Or stick an all red TDI badge on it. Might be an idea. The bodyshop took off the "fabia" and small red "TDI" badges off the wings so they could blend in the bonnet to the wings. They're in my ashtray now...

Think its the one off the octy engine cover

And is opens how quickly on the lifter?

Umm, it has no lifter at all at the moment - Its in my passenger footwell. I need a new lifter strut. :D

You see, the lifter itself was developed to work with a nice tough heavy metal bonnet, and quite simply the carbon bonnet is too light, and bends a little too much when you try to compress the lifter. I'm after one of those "pair of lifter" kits, so I can just get a single lifter strut, which should provide adequate (and not too much) lift for the bonnet.

Edit: vRS badge for sale in sale section.

  What did they write all over the old bonnet!! Want to see that spotless before i have that!! :P :D :D

BTW... i'll take the old grills rather than the new ones. And one good note is if the bonnet fits in ur furby... it'll easily fit in my car

Please allow a naive philistine to ask just one teensy weensy question.

Why fanny around buggering up a perfectly good car?

You really need to read back the old threads about the mongrel lol!! This is one incredibly large project including an entire engine transplant Jason took on here with the mongrel.

That blue writing comes off - Its a little like that stuff they use to write prices on car windscreens in car garages. :D I think it was written on there after I dropped the car off to clarify exactly what was needed.

And the question, "why?" Well, when you have a passion, you want to indulge in that passion as often as possible. As I'm single I've no swmbo to indulge in, so the car "metaphorically" gets all my lovin'.

Richard - so you don't need the new grille surround and slats? If you're happy enough with the old ones. Its just the slats has the markings left by a badge, and the chrome effect bit on the old grille isn't in the best of condition - bit speckled with pebble / grit marks.

Yeah fine with the old one... i'm going down the miltec route in future so new one not needed.
