Removing Factory Headunit

Featured Replies

Hi everyone! New member here just picked up my mk1 Octavia VRS this afternoon and I love it! It's red, 54 plate and has 13000 miles on the clock.

I want to remove the factory headunit (symphony) and use my Alpine with iPod connectivity - do I need any special tools to remove the headunit?

I've also read varying opinions regarding the permanent live and switched live being the wrong way round - could someone confirm if this is correct or can I just plug and play?

Hope someone can help, and thanks in advance...

get an autoleads adapter from halfords its chages the wire round for you and doesnt void any warrntys as for removal snap a junior hacksaw blade in half and use them like keys

Kenwood HU keys also work for Skoda units. I got mine free from a local HU supplier a long time ago. Although they weren't "free". Considered them chucked in free with a head unit. :D

Long time ago that was! Now got a very decent Pioneer MP3 player which I'm as happy as larry with - no extra added amplified ICE. My :speaker: :speaker: :speaker: days are over.

I have a pioneer mp3/wma unit in mine, with uprated speakers and it works well!

Yeah, I have uprated speakers from my ICE days - Kappa Components, but they're no longer powered by a Rockford Fosgate amp, but by the head unit. Still half decent though. My HU is the DEH 9600-MP

get yourself an aerial booster or you wont get a decent radio reception also get wires nice and neat as there is not much space behind also you swap the red wire with the yellow i believe you can do that easy with the alpine wiring that comes with the headunit hope this helps

i gotta 53 plate octy rs with a kenwood HU never needed a booster for it

The Alpine loom has bullet connectors for the red and yellow, so no adapter needed, just swap them around. :)

Thanks for the advice eberyone - I'll rip it out during the week and fit the new one. Think I'll stick with the multichanger for the rest of the weekend 'cos I want to take it out for a drive today!!!

UPDATE - I've fitted it and it fits in really well with the cars colour scheme. Thanks for the advice, it made the job a whole lot easier.
