No major problems, just lots of niggly little things. Not helped by a local dealer who really couldn't give a toss.

9 months with a VRS only issue in all that time was a radio head unit that died. The next day it'd fixed itself and never bothered us again.

As stated before people often find this forums when they're looking to fix a problem so you always end up getting lots of problems reported and complaints.

My 4x4 TDI Estate is 12 month old this week, has just clicked over 25,000 miles, suffers from an annoying vibration in 3rd gear at low revs, has done it for 21,000 miles now, been in to the Skoda dealer 6 times to be looked at - still doing it.

It flattened its battery overnight twice in 1 week requiring AA call outs - faulty cooling fan controller.

Stream radio popped and crashed often - Replaced with MFD2 sat nav.

N/S/F door let water in - replaced seal.

O/S/F door panel foam flattened from simply resting arm on it - replaced under warranty.

Terrible grinding noise from transmission - traced to a stone getting lodged inside brake caliper, told happens and dealer has no idea how the stones get in there in the first place - no charge for labour to remove.

Averages around 41mpg - well below official figures - was loaned a Golf 1.9 TDI 2WD as loan car, that only averaged 37mpg so aint complaining now- god the hills are big round here!

Most problematic car I have owned in years, would I buy another? You bet! The dealer support is first rate and the car suits the job it was bought for perfectly but as the Scout is just round the corner I feel a sudden tightening of the wallet ahead, just why oh why cant we have one with DSG!

oh and forgot to mention wears tyres at an alarming rate - full set replaced after just 17,000 miles (rotated round) Backs wear quicker than fronts, whats that all about?

No major problems, just lots of niggly little things. Not helped by a local dealer who really couldn't give a toss.

May we know which dealer that is?

Have my new vRS almost 5 months and 100% to date (touch wood!). Very impressed. As a previous post said, usually only the negative items will be posted. If all is good then there is nothing to say.

I am on Number 3 Skoda, 2 Octy Mk1's and now the Furby Vrs, any niggles have been very few and far between an very minor, that I havent bothered posting, My local dealer has resolved without quibble and speedily.

Would I have No 4, - YES if they produce something I want.

I have an octavia 2 diesel with DSG - I've had if for 20 months from new and its been faultless. In the past I've had two Favorits and they were no trouble at all. Cars are electromechanical machines and inevitably they will all wear out in the end and give troubles. This forum seems to be top heavy in users who drive remapped Fabia's and then grizzle when things go wrong.

As has already been pointed out, the satisfied users have no need to post so they don't.

I had an MK 2 L&K tdi (lease car) for 18 months. In that time it had the same fault occur 13 times and was off the road for 12 weeks. On the 13th time my company terminated the lease agreement and the car has been returned to Skoda who eventually acknowledged there was a serious problem.

Any way I am not put off and have ordered a vRS tdi as replacement, only wish Skoda had acted earlier in taking back the car.

The other thing is the numbers game. How many Skodas have started life on our roads in the few years? What proportion of them have had trouble worth mentioning? That is the figure I think should matter.

You always hear bad news in the media. Nobody reports a story saying "everything has been fine in our town for the last 6 months".

We get threads now when Skoda slips to mid-table in reliability surveys. An unreliable Skoda is news - how ironic...

Skodas are like any other car - there'll be good and bad examples. Good scores in certain surveys have meant some people have swallowed pride, gone Skoda and entered with unrealistically high expectations.

Buy the car you like best :)

I have an Octavia 2 Vrs, by the way my first Skoda and so far no problems at all! I love it!!:D I life in iceland and i have to mention that roads and conditions are not the best, witch puts the car to a certain limit and still it performs great.

If you like it, buy it!!

Patolin :orb_opera

I would agree that alot of the posts relate to people looking to solve problems, I've got 5k miles on the new vRS and so far not a problem

The only problem I had was after I picked it up from the dealer, I refuelled at my local supermarket, and saw two more Octy Mk2's, both in Race Blue......Knew I should of had the yellow...tsk!

I am on Octavia number 2, the first was a Mk1 Elegance PD130, racked up over 100k in 2 years and nothing serious went wrong on the damn thing.

The current car is a 2.0TDI Elegance estate and it's done just over 26,000 miles since July. Can't report any serious issues so far.

I am starting to question the build quality on my skoda I must admit. Don't get me wrong, I love the car but there have been a number of things it has been back to the dealer for so I am not convinced the quality is quite VW or Audi. Having said that, my Golf had to have two new lamba probes and two new radiator fans, and my TT had to have a new steering wheel to fix a rattle.

The things my VRs has been back to the dealer for are as follows:

- Rear hubs rusting (they rubbed them down and painted them again)

- Airbag warning indicator requiring a new part to be fitted

- Persistent rattle. It has been in at least 5 times with this now and they may have today diagnosed the problem. Now awaiting a new rear seatbelt part. Originally thought to be the boot trim so I have a new one of those now!

- Misted up headlamps. Both require replacing and on order.

- Climate control not feeding warm air to the centre or passenger vents. Apparently some connection cables were missing (!!) so parts on order.

I've had it since June and have done 5K.

Not quite what I was hoping for but mechanically sound.... so far.

I've had mine 9 months les - quite a few trips to the dealer for a car that has only covered 4000 miles:

- speaker problem - some rewiring required

- air curtain bag warning light came on - more wiring work

- emissions warning light came on - sensor fitting

- heated seat element in driver back rest not working - currently awaiting for replacement back rest

- and in the meantime the emissions warning light is back on again so will need looking at again when seat is sorted out

I also had to replace a tyre within the first 6 months - so maybe just an unlucky car.

I had wanted to keep my car a very long time (my previous car I had for nearly 15yrs). If the faults continue I may need to consider trading it in before the 3 yr warranty expires.

100% happy with car and 110% happy with dealer.

Why did I open my big mouth :D

Swmbo driving the Oct'y today when an engine managment light came on

Took it streight round the dealers, who within the hour gave coffee and run a diagnostics check, found a faulty part ordered a replacement and booked the car in for a weeks time with a foc courtsey car:thumbup:

Thanks Sherlodge.

its the luck of the draw and the ford focus is a poor comparison to any vag car

Do you think? Had a Ford Focus and the pedal box was faulty (replaced) and the driver window needed lubrication - had the car for 6 years not a bad record!

Individual experience means very little. Only collation of experience over a large sample group can give any meaningful results, and Skoda, although apparently slipping a bit, is still no more of a gamble than any other box-shifter.

Don't buy a Skoda on the grounds of awesome reliability. Don't not buy a Skoda on the grounds of it being the butt of jokes (unless you're really thin skinned). Buy a Skoda because you preferred it over the other cars you tried. :)

I always think it is odd when people talk about something being a "good" car, without qualifying the model. Years ago I had Cavaliers - about 10 altogether, starting with the original 1900, and including one of the last Opel Mantas.

Of the final model range my last one was the 130 bhp 2.0 Sri. There was absolutely no comparison between that and the others in the range I had driven. So I couldn't say "The Cavalier" was a good car, only that the Cavalier SRi was excellent [for its day], the others were just okay.

My 03 Skoda Octavia TDI Automatic has done a 75,000 Miles and it's only been back for oil and filter changes from the day I got it .

....... you can see that 90% of problem cars were purchased one year or less after model first showed up. ..

I have a September 2004 Ocky 2 which had a few minor problems which were sorted very quickly under warranty.

Since then it has been 100% reliable and is by far the best car I have owned build quality first class, road holding as if it is on rails.

Only gripe is the Stream radio that suffers from breakthrough far more than any other RDS radio that I or my wife have had in other cars including the Ocky 1 and the wife's Fabia.

It follows on from a Mk 1 Ocky that I ran for 4 and a half years and nearly 80,00 miles with no problems at all.

I will buy another Octavia vRS - I have started looking...

If it is only short term use the Halfords own brand stick on continental headlamp converters. They work fine.

Longer term sorry I can't help.
