RME Biodiesel

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

There's a guy in Leicester who sells 100% RME Biodiesel in 25 litre tanks for 82p a litre. That's 8p a litre less than Tescos sell regular diesel for. Needless to say, I'm tempted!

People say you should replace the fuel filter when running on biodiesel. How often should that be done, and is it complicated - i.e. could an idiot like me do it? I replaced the primer bulb on a 205 1.9D once and I got diesel everywhere :(

Should I start with a splash in the tank with every fill up and go from there? Are there any downsides to going the whole hog?

I have a non-PD TDi 110.

My Uni Dissertation is on bio diesel so here is what i can tell you..

There are no issues with fuel filters imo, most bio diesel is actually very clean. The main issue with running biodiesel on a long term basis is the lubricity of it is lower than diesel therefore can on occasion cause premature wear on o rings, seals etc.

On a short term basis there is nothing stopping you running on 100% biodiesel. Its recommended you start with a 25% blend and if it runs ok go for a 50% blend and if everything is still good then go 100% biodiesel. Only issue with running 100% biodiesel is your car starts to smell like a dohnut stand and you may have some issues starting on very cold mornings if your car is not kept in a garage.

I think you should go for it, its a much much cleaner fuel and cheaper.. its a win win!

I thik the issue with the fuel filters is that it takes on water easier than mineral derv and that it cleans the cr*p out that was in the car already which gets caught in the filter.

mmm I need someone selling the stuff in Weymouth as they have just ramped the price up from 89.9 to 91.9p/litre :-(
