Flat Battery??? How do i know??

Featured Replies

Just got the Octy serviced 2 weeks ago. Its a 4 yrs old TDI with 45k miles.

On a few mornings its been hard to start, and when it starts it seems to lock all or some of the doors. It did the same this morning and reset the digital trip/ avg miles etc and locked all doors.

Would this be a flat battery, and is it common for a battery to die this soon.

My last car was a TDi golf mk3, and the battery was fine for 7 years and 100k miles.

stick a voltmeter across the terminals and see what its reading. If its about 10/11volts then it can be difficult to start sometimes. My battery on my clio was like this for about 3 months before i changed it :D

Stick your lights on and try and start the car if the lights go really dim when you try and turn it over the battery needs sorting.

Winter - always shows up a potentially dodgy battery. Did the dealer not do a battery test at the service? Or don't they do that these days?

Wasn't a dealer service (independant). Got a new battery yesterday and it seems to have cured the problem. just as well, cause it was baltic this morning!!

I went to start the car the other week, all the lights worked etc, but there was nothing to start the car. Eventually had it jump started, this spiked the alarm, but thats another story. since then it has run fine. I topped the cells up with deionised water just in case, fingers crossed, was a odd one off.
