110 Had its Chips??

Featured Replies

Recently e-mailed the guys at Celtic Tuning about having my 99 SLX TDI remapped and they said it wasn't possible without actually soldering a new "Chip" into the ECU. Thought I would have read about it on here by now if thats the case?

Really should be more concerned with getting 110bhp but curosity has killed the cat again!

I am pretty sure my 2001 110TDi can have have a new map inserted into the current ECU with no need to solder anything!

I didn't think OBD port remapping was possible for the 110TDi and you had to have new EEPROM.

This may have changed since though.

On the later cars it was possible to remap them via the OBD port but that may not be the case on the earlier ones. Try phoning a couple of other tuning companies and see what they say

This is what I was thinking and re-reading the top post...my SLX TDi was a W reg and that required an EEPROM change.

Arh... where is mine is the facelift 2001 (Y), so maybe that explains it.

That all sounds pretty much in line with wot celtic said, just wanted to check. Dont really like the sound of dismantelling the ECU, think a tuning box may be the way forward?!

We had ours done by Jabba, def worth it & you will get more performance from a remap than a tuning box

Most VAG cars petrol or diesel before year 2000 require a chip change or at thje very least the chip tuning on the bench. Since 2000 its OBD port tuning for nearly everything. (not the new 170 PD though or some of the 140 PD DPF)
