Is the Octy VRS known amongst the boy racer crowd??

Featured Replies

Much like the title says,do the boy racer mob actually know what the Octy VRS is or cant they see past the Skoda badge?Im asking this not to bragg about racing them or anything like that its just ive lost count of the amount of chavved up saxo's,206s etc ive had up my **** wanting to race, depends on my mood and road conditions whether i show them how fast a skoda really can be but i was just wondering if any one else has had similar experiences.

I get a fair few numptys asking questions like "Are they really as fast as people say". I think they know, they just think their cars are quicker than they actually are.

The police don't use them as their unmarked high pursuit cars for nothing!!

lol yeah think that sums the car up well enough,i mean im not making the car out to be a super car but the various ***** mobiles really dont stand a hope in hell against it and you'd have thought their drivers would know better which made me intially wonder if due to it being a skoda they ahve a clue about the VRS and what its capable of,im more than happy to keep showing them though lol!

It's the RS badge thats the problem, before I bought my Vrs I had a 330bhp Sapphire 4x4 Cosworth and even then I had all the Max boys trying to have a go, the most problems I have are the expensive Merc and BMW drivers (X5 drivers particularly), it seems to be a snobbery thing that they just don't like being overtaken by a Skoda!

spot on! same experience here.. it's the BMW's that have the biggest priblem with the skoda badge as it goes past them ;)

oh, and I've still got my 4x4 Cosworth

both RS cars and love them both in their own way :)

mine aint the octy but i always get the usual chavved up saxo or 206 trying to get a race when im picking up the fiancee after her work some nights, but usually leave them in my black smoke off the roundabouts..

but i have noticed alot of both octy and furby vRS's staring to appear since i got mine.

I like my Octy because it's understated and thankfully doesn't attract the attention of the boy racer community . . . . . unfortunately it still gets attention from Merc/BMW brigade though.

I am sure most people think that my vrs is an sdi or a taxi and that they are quicker and better. it is really quite intresting watching someone try and work out what has jsut happened to them. earler in the year I had one real smart *** in a jag that thought he would out acelerate me and cut in front on a motorway. he did not antipate that I would keep up with him till we met the next car in his way. the moral of this is yes they are a very quick car which can really **** off some serious car drivers

nice to see i aint the only one then, reason i started all this was last night i had a lil **** in a hopped up 206 try it on,road was clear and quiet so i decided totake up him up on his offer and proceeded to obliterate him, once i slowed up to ahem *legal* speeds he pulled up beside me with a massive grin and looking somewhat bemused!Beat by a skoda bet he wont be bragging to his mates in the local car park about that one  had my fair share of guys in much more mature cars seem bewildered at the pace of it aswell.

3rd gear alone will see off all but the most determined drivers :)

Now try the same against an Audi S4 that's been remapped :P

Although I have a lowly Fabia vRS (which ain't gonna keep up either ;) this is not about flaming ) the vRS badge appears to have the biggest effect on the boyracer crowd IMHO.

I removed mine and the grief stopped.

I've seen some pretty darn fast Octy's around this area though, fairly convinced several of them have seen a few minor tweaks done to them :D

I for one wouldnt dare attempt taking on a standard S4 let alone a remapped one lol

I did (for a laugh) - surprisingly I kept up well as we both drove off gently and then booted it. Fun whilst it lasted (which was up to the point where I went for 4th and he had a few thousand rpm left :D :D :D)

Suffice to say I saw him drive off for a while until we both slowed to a more NSL-friendly pace (me with massive grin giving him the thumbs up ;) )

kinda kept up with a scooby wrx one night but i know had he wanted to he'd have murdered me!

As a member of her majesty's plod, I get to chat with a lot of young ****'s and twoccer's, they all know exactly what an Octy and Fabia VRS is, and they all rate them as "sick" which apparently means they are very well respected as quick motors.

In fact they are so clued up about them that a few months ago I was in the custody area waiting to book a young miscreant into the cells and we got chatting about fast cars ( always a nice neutral topic to pass the time ) and I mentioned I was looking at swapping my MkI VRS Octy for the MkII, to which he replied "Yeah, the new diesel is F***ing well quick, me mate always hires cars, and he had one for a few days, I'd go for that over the petrol"

This was when most of my colleagues didn't know that there was a new VRS let alone a diesel one.

We also get to police some of the "Max Power" type unofficial car-cruises on the retail parks, and again, I usually get chatting to a few of the lads ( some k**b heads, but a few are normal decent lads ) and they never "diss" Skoda's, they all have a lot of respect for the badge, and all know what the VRS is, and in all cases covet it rather than ridicule it.

In my opinion it's just older snobs, and all women ( forum members excepted ! ) who dismiss Skoda's based on some old Jasper Carrot jokes.

Oh yes, and all Jag X-Type drivers seem to think they are driving a touring car, despite the fact that the Mondeo on which it's based is infinitely better.

hmmmm thats interesting, maybe the scotish ones aint so clued up or are just even more stupid thinking their silly lil warm hatches can match it lol

the Octy is a bit of fun for sure... but not half the fun of the near-300bhp 15-year old Sierra that people don't see coming (or going!):D :D as butchvrs will no doubt confirm LOL

You'd be amazed what you can do to a little corsa with a turbo'd petrol under the bonnet as well, IF you're on the straight that is :D

That said that kinda Sierra would have had a fair bit of work done to it :)

standard aside of a handfull of PSI more boost ;)

None of the NZ boy racers have a clue what my car is - they all love the Japanese cars here.

It's funny to have the occasional traffic light GP with them and win.

Most of them seem to have small engines and big exhausts with auto gearboxes. Pah!

Then again the national speed limit is 100kph so you have to be careful!

I also find it funny when cars full of lads have to catch up with me to see what the badges are :)

I think I would prefer it if they didn't rate them, especially the twoccers

There is a stretch of road by my house that is pitch black. I try to avoid parking there because it seems that's where most things happen such as Mr p's wing mirror being ripped off and one of our neighbours stereos being nicked last night. I'm thinking about setting up a sensor light as some kind of deterant, maybe on a timer so it doesn't pee so many people off, including us :P

There may well be an element amongst the 'boy racers' that they know exactly what it is so they want to see 'what it will do', so they provoke you to give it a bit of welly. Also if you drive in a spirited fashion you'll always attract the oiks. It's like a reg flag to a bull. I've no doubt owners of so called 'superior' cars also get aggrieved.

I was at the jetwash last week with the missus (both cars!), and whilst we were washing ours, a lad in a Max'd Corsa pulls into the next bay and starts washing his car.

A few minutes later, a Max'd Clio pulls in behind him, the lad gets out and starts chatting to the first guy - they obviously know each other. As we're washing our cars, I just pick up a few lines of their conversations -

"...see what's over there? Skoda"

"vRS?"

"New Octavia..."

...that was all I could make out!

I'm a member of my local cruisers site. Apparently there are tales in the district of a rather fast black vRS going about :eek::eek:

Guess who :cool::cool::cool:

Having said that, most of them on the site seem to have really nice cars
