Octy vRS squeaking suspension

Featured Replies

Well, driving home after todays midland mega meet I noticed a squeeking noise coming from the drivers side front. it was alright when I left, it was during the journey this problem developed and seems to be getting worse.

Symptoms.

Driving at motorway speed you can hear a faint squeek when travelling along undulating road surfaces, normal bumps make no noise.

At town speeds (30mph) and whilst going round left corners the sqweek is quiet loud. Driving over road humps makes an interesting noise.

When the car is stationary if you bounce the car up/down there is NO squeek at all so it only happens when in motion.

Answers and suggestions to cause much appreciated.

Manny, if they are blown and need replacing, give them to me (after all I'm trading mine and let the buyer beware) so I can put my KWs on the TDI :D

Anyway, sorry to hear they are squeaking :(

I'll use the car for work tomorrow and see how it goes, if its still doing it I guess that the wheel needs to come off to check everything. If its the damper could be KW here I come.

Gimme, gimme, gimme :D

Wot TDI?

Keep up Denis. ;)

Christian, from Norway, got 177bhp (IIRC) when his 130bhp PD Octy was remapped by Jabba. Probably would have got more but due to his new tyres the car was wanting to comeoff the rollers.

Also Jabba's own 130bhp PD Golf produces 200bhp.

I spoke to my local dealer and he seems a little bemused as to what the cause might be. I drove the car to work this morning and the noise appears to be coming from the top of the strut although its hard to tell from inside the car.

The Octy should produce more as it has a less restrictive exhaust. Also note, I can get a free flow cat for the Octy :P

Just a quick update.

Went out with a work colleague at lunchtime for a drive round. still squeeking like a good'n. Got back to carpark and with 2 people bouncing the car we can get quiet a loud noise, seems to be coming from wheel centre area although not sure.

Manny,

Similar just started on mine, but staionary, getting in and out, bouncing on the sils...

I can't hear it when moving due to a "free-flow" setup ;)

We have similiar faults with A3 / TT -- usually linked to Anti-roll bar - either small links from roll-bar to suspension or more likely the plastic sleave on the roll bar have come loose,(this is where the ARB bushes mount) - this means replacement of the Anti-roll bar as the plastic sleave is not available seperately - make sure the dealer don't just replace the bushes as this will only cure noise short term!

Hope this helps

May be I'm beng a bit pedantic but is the anti-roll bar problem more of a creaking noise as opposed to a squeaking?

I seem to remember that there was a creaking suspension issue which turned out to be the anit-roll bar bushes being dry or, is this what Dave's been talking about?

Mine creaks for sure, particularly when on gradients.

Will have to give Jacksons a call and see if they know what this is. Will also get them to change my coil packs as well even though they mentioned nothing to me at my 20k service. Aren't the garages supposed to change them under warranty whne cars are in for service?

I got same problem with mine at moment

only noticed it today though so gonna throw it back to Horners

If the weather is ok sunday I'll take the wheel off and have a look, is there anything that can be seen that makes it obvious what I am looking for.

  • 1 month later...

My Octavia VRS has developed a creaking noise when going over road humps, it seems to be quite loud but doesn't do it when driving on a normal flat surface. If you bounce the car up and down when parked and stationery it doesn't squeek either. Does anyone have any ideas....the dealers appear to be at a loss as well! Any ideas would be very much appreciated.

Wishbone bushes, probably the rear one (but still at the front of the car).

Check the base of rear seatbacks are properly located in their fastenings if you're getting a creaking (as opposed to squeaking) noise on corners.

Dave.
