Climatronic in Fabia?

Featured Replies

Hi Briskodians,

Waiting for my Fab vRS to reach the stealer but just wondering if Climatronic is in any way retro-fittable? I've spent too many years in A2s I guess but I'd love to know anyway :D

Errr, not really, no. Would be a massive job.

What 'e said. Lots of sensors, flaps, motors and ecu to retrofit........

Chris

Strangely enough it IS possible, based on an article on tdiclub regarding a different car that didnt have it before.

However it is a LOT of hard work (days if you're v good), it is expensive (loads of bits as per Chris' thread) and if you'd have to safely empty out the aircon & refill (after). If you're not careful you can damage aircon pipework.

I was tempted to do it, and having had an A2 with it for a while now, I can see how I would enjoy having that again, but it just isn't a particularly viable idea for the car. Real shame, but frankly it just is too much work :(

I don't think climate control is that good anyways. But then I don't have it. It's just gimmick IMO.

I can't see how much difference it can make to a car interior that is a small volume anyway.

It does keep the temperature properly, unlike the one in the Fabia where it doesn't, it just adjusts the temperature of the air coming out.

Still, it ain't bad enough for me to consider spending tons of money and effort on it at this point in time ;)

still I don't think keeping the temperature steady is worth the money if it's not standard.

save you money and go on a nice luxury holiday

I have climate control and wouldn't be without it. It controls all the fans, their speeds and which vents the air comes out of to get the cabin quickly up ro down to the temp set and then maintain it without me having to do anything :D Dual zone is better still :D

Chris

But I have no need to do this.. Although as I said I don't have it to live with day to day but have used it.

I just turn the key and drive. Maybe flick on the heated seats. thats all I care about nowadays aslong as my heated seats are working I don't care what the blowers are doing :)

Must admit heated seats are the one thing this A2 doesn't have which I really miss. The big benefit of the full climatronic in it however is that it lets the engine warm up sufficiently first, then it kicks in the heating, and the whole car is warmed up 'in one go'. I can't remember the exact costings of the Climatronic upgrade but it was quite a large sum of dosh :)

I must be fussy then cos I was forever adjusting the "temperature" on my Fabia, flicking the vents to windscreen to demist the car, selecting face and feet vents to warm up in winter (heated seats didn't warm my hands or feet! ;)) and adjusting the fan to cool or warm the car quickly. :D

Chris

In case you do want to take this further, here a link that may help you, please note this is NOT for the Fabia but the same kinda stuff would apply

Yes, Your just fussy! :P

In all honesty, before I sold the Fabia in the mornings and especially in cold raining weather the window's would steam up etc, you'd have to put the aircon on and demist them, then within 10 minutes it'd be back. With the Climate Control in my new car, you don't need to keep adjusting it to get rid of the steam, leave it at one temperature and all is well.

I had climatecontrol in my previous Mercedes E Class and in comparison I think the more basic temperature controlled system in my Fabia is pretty good with very little temperature variation once up to temperature and any misting clearing within a few seconds of starting up. I have the aircon on all the time (key to reducing misting), the fan set to 2, and the distribution mid-left / equally between screen and floor.

Oh well looks like it's a little more complicated than I imagined. Not a big deal I suppose but I will miss it. I've always had the A/C running so misting is not a problem and if, as Martin says, the temperature regulation works well then that's ok with me.

Funny thing is there is next to no mention of the system in the brochure, so before I opened it for the 476th time I thought I'd be getting plain vanilla A/C.

Thanks a ton Guys for clearing it up for me.

The other problem is finding a climatronic unit the right size with green illumination...

Yeah the Climatic is a kind of manual climate control. IIRC, it has a single sensor in the cabin and uses this to adjust the flap which controls the ratio of hot/cold air. I used to keep the fan on speed 1 all the time, but any higher than that and I found the noise too intrusive.... :D

Chris

O/T but I've always wondered what the A2 is like to live with? Theres a 1.4 TDI on a Y plate for sale at my ex Skoda garage and its totally mint.

Coming from a Fabia with the "Climatic" air conditioning to my Octy with duel-zone climatatronic, I can say the latter is vastly superior! The temperature is always perfect, I never really have to touch it!

what parts are missing exaclty for you to be able to fit Climate? my m8s seat ibiza FR has it, looks same size box, i unerstood it only worked using the same basice, heater and air con, but has a temperature sensor....so what else is required? why can you not jus put this unit striaight in?

sorry if that seems obvious and daft, but im not that technical :P

Climatronic also controls vents used and fan speeds and I think there are several temperature sensors around the cabin. Best to have a look on ETKA :D

Chris

@vrsdanny - most of the stuff is in that link I posted from tdiclub, but it comes down to a bunch of wiring, some sensors, and a module IIRC. Not cheap and the worst thing is the amount of stuff you have to shift to get the wiring in and working.

@DMac1969 - the A2 is not bad at all, the 1.4 TDI I have in it seems to be sufficiently powerful, it has been remapped though. It has done about 110k and I reckon it is overdue a service, but it still goes well ;)

I would advise you to try it out for a test drive, to see if you like the seats. The bonnet arrangement is quirky with it's service flap for screenwash/oil. The car is made from aluminium mostly and the fuel economy when sticking to speed limits is excellent. The car is a bit higher so it will catch side wind a tad more than the Fabia for sure. For that kinda money/mileage combination it is certainly worth considering a test drive, considering how much it was new it REALLY is not a bad price :)

It does keep the temperature properly, unlike the one in the Fabia where it doesn't, it just adjusts the temperature of the air coming out.

My Fabia's temperature selector stays set at around 21degC - the temperature of the air coming out of the vents varies depending on the temperature it needs to be to heat or cool the car. Isn't the grille next to the interior lights a thermostat? It's certainly the best "climate" system I've ever had on a car - though admittedly the XM's auto fan was better (but it didn't have AC)

The a/c temp sensor is in the control panel itself, behind one of the little crosshatched grills.

please note this is NOT for the Fabia but the same kinda stuff would apply

Indeed. I wonder whether you'd have to fabriate your own airbox, amongst other things? Also, would it be a question of a custom mount to get the panel fitted on the central console?

Although I personally think that climatronic is great and I wouldn't be without it!
