Featured Replies

Hi just got a new ignition switch for mi felicia 1.3 1995 and don't know how to fit it.

anybody out there know how to fit one. Boooo:confused:

:) Have you bought the whole thing with steering lock and key, or have you just bought the electric switch?

just the switch , had a go at fitting it today but couldn't get the dash off, i have no manual. Got the bottom section off steering plastic cover , but couldn't access it.

Basically it won't start , wont bump and i got the idea of changing the switch from this forum, when i turn the key the solienoid just clicks but, wont bump start so solienoid and start motor can't be at fault, so someone suggested the swithch which has 6 contacts must not be lighting up the one which goes to the coil, distibuto, spark plugs e.t.c. any advice would be very welcome. the cars quite old and I'm scared to take it to skoda as they said it would cost £60 per hour and they have to fetch it and find the fault.

cheers, Boooo

:) If the solenoid clicks but the starter won't turn the engine over, then you'll have either an almost flat battery or a faulty starter motor. The fact that the solenoid clicks when you turn the key suggests that the ignition switch is working!

thanks. But why won't it bump start?, thats the only thing thats bugging me, is it not true that if the starter motor is at fault, it should at least bump start? The battery still seems ok and even if it was low, it still should bump should it not?

:) Silly question, but I assume the ignition is on when you're attempting bump start it. Are you using 1st gear? Has the car got an immobilizer?

yes the ignition is on when trying to bump,I tried bumping in 3rd , 2nd and finally 1st before i ran out of hills. it has no immobiliser, but it does have a chip in the key to enable you to turn the key at all. I had a spare key cutt without realising this and it just can't be turned at all, so i think that this is all it does, stops the mechenism turning without the proper key. The chip in the proper key enables the lock to turn.

cheers, boooo

Where are you based mate?

if you are local I could come over with my haynes?

(long shot):)

failing that, put it all back together, join the RAC and call them out!

hi I'm in sheffield, Boooo

  • 1 month later...

i am having the same problem at the moment . i spoke to a locksmith yesterday

what happens is if you only use 1 key all the time the key and the ignition marry themselves together so the spare key wont work . in my case i need a new ignition just so i can get a spare key
