Was I unreasonable?

Featured Replies

I went to my local dealers this afternoon looking at buying a Octy II vRs. Told the guy what spec I wanted (Black Magic paint, Xenons, 18" wheels, Jumbo Pack, Maxidot, rear parking sensors) and the salesman very kindly totted it all up (around

Sounds like he doesn't need your business, I'd go to someone who does!

Doesnt sound like a great px price either tbh.

FWIW a similar spec on www.drivethedeal.com would be around £16k. ;)

no disrespect to dealers but if places like drivethedeal can offer a car for £16k then why would you pay over £19k for the same thing other than an easy way to get rid of your current car?

The dealer was being totally unreasonable, assuming your trade in was priced around book he/she should be getting close to the drivethedeal price.

Remember if you order via DTD your car will come from a UK dealer, they have the ability of finding the one that most needs the deal. You could probably achieve this yourself if you called every Skoda dealer in the UK.

I suppose they need to, and know they can sell a number of cars to unsuspecting punters with no discount.....that will be to fund the kind of discounts that the drivethedeal and other broker purchasers get!

So the choice is yours, I know which type of customer I am.

There always seems to be these complications between trade-in price, new car discount, and finance interest! I tell them basically what I am willing to pay per month and for how long. So sometimes the good deal comes from a low APR on financing the balance.

Unless you are buying the car for cash in one lump sum, it seems to me that what matters is what leaves your bank each month.

But I agree that what you most need is a dealer that wants your business.

6k for your car seems pretty low IMHO

The dealer will have a margin in the new, not a huge amount but enough to cut the price a little but then it depends on the trade in and if he's had to offer you over the top for yours to try and tempt you. According to Parkers I think your 6k is realistic.

The car you need will almost certainly be in UK stock and therefore should be available to most UK dealers. PM me if you would like me to ask my contact for you.

Thanks everyone.

The current situation is the dealer is going to have a look around the used cars section on Skoda to see if he can get me an ex demo matching what I want, with a suitable reduction of price of course. Failing that I'll tell him to leave it and I'll have a look on the net.

To Be Continued..............

No doubt he'll come back quoting around

I only paid 17k for mine - same spec except for the rear parking sensors.

Ring round as many dealers as you can, making sure they know that you are doing so, and get their best price. I would imagine March will be a good time to get a good deal as they will all be trying to make their 06/07 targets.

I'm beginning to think my local dealer has made his targets for this year, I know he has sold all his Roomster allocation and had to get more from others.

Try giving Simpsons of Colne a ring Ants (on here) is a sale exec there. They have been known to match DTD and give a fair mid book price on px ;) They are located in Colne so don't know how far you are willing to travel but it could well be worth your while, especially for the cost of a phone call. Do a search plenty recommend them

I said to be continued, and here is the update.

I have been communicating with Ants all week, and a fair bit today, and he had offered to supply me the car I wanted for

Can't beat a good scrap between dealers :D

I had this with a couple of local dealers when I bought my Fiesta ST in May.

Just go somewhere else, I did, and got the deal I wanted.

In your case buying a car for over 19,000 and then not getting any discount is outrageous. The dealer will make a good markup on your trade in but I blieve they don't make much on new cars.

Go somewhere else!

So your now being offered a £700 discount...how generous!!!

What's stopping you going via drive the deal at a £3200 discount? (I haven't checked the price myself but that's what another poster reckoned)
