Fabia VRS vs. the world

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Ive been a member of the forums since i had my VRS in 2005. I have moved on from then an got myself an 225 Audi TT. I still come to the forums, as i like to see how the furby is progressing and to help out with any questions i have the answer to. However all this my fabia vrs beat a 5 series beemer, my fabia vrs is soooo fast, is starting to get very tiresome. In reality.... lets be honest, its not THAT fast, infact its not even fast at all. There are so many cars that would thrash it, even a rep mobile 2.0ltr mondeo which you can pick up for about £800. For comparison my TT isnt THAT fast either.

What im trying to get at, is these kind of posts and replies are starting to make the forum a place for people to make themselves look stupid.... Once you move away from the fabia vrs you will realise... well actually it wasnt fast was it.

Can we stop these posts, as it is becoming tiresome having to trawl through genuine threads with people going, my vrs would beat it... Its starting to get annoying. I know people will say, if you dont like it then do one, but i rate this forum and dont want it to go downhill.

Dont get me wrong the Skoda Fabia VRS is a great small hatchback, economical, well built, good residuals, looks nice. However standard its not a performance car, FACT!

Just my 2p

Well said Rico

Hope you like your new car, enjoy. I think we all appreciate ex owners opinions.

Well said!

The fab vrs is a great little car and it is nippy but it aint no super car! As a vrs owner some of thes posts do get annoying!

Anyhow the 2.0 8v is way quicker! ;)

Well said fella!

I might be getting old and blind but those sort of threads are as rare as Hen's teeth.

Unless there is a saxo section on Briskoda that I haven't found yet

 It's faster than my next car if all goes to plan

Fair call though. I'm bored of mine.

that comparision was stupid as he says his is faster but it was only the reaction of an auto Vs a TDi thats already in gear that let the BMW down. i know which car i'd rather have adn i know which would be a lot cheaper to buy too :)

Rico,

Your right, guess people take things a bit far, though I did overtake an enzo on a blind hairpin :P  (just kidding!)

The Fabia vRS works for me, as commuting 130 miles a day i get the economy, and lots of torque to overtake on A roads, dual carriage way/motor way.

This IS where the vRS is strong, low torque, lazy gearing - easy to overtake. TBH, in the areas described, only an out/out sports car is really going to significantly better it - it's a fine motor; especially for the price.

Also, rising to the bait, in the circumstances described - a 2 litre mondy would be flapping impotently. ;)

Perhaps your TT is lacking in the pace due to 4x4? That take some of the shine off? :(

Cheers, D

OOOOOOOOOIIII!!!!! Oh hang on, a comment not slating Ford's or Mondeo's  What is this site coming to :P:rofl:

Chris

Well mine is getting back in a state where it will drive again, and it needs to be run in, so even SWMBO might beat me

A 2litre mondy would be close, a 2.5v6 ghia, for an extra £200 would show you a clean pair of heals.

The TT isnt a super quick car.... 0-60 in 6.6 i think, comes with standard hair clippers and hair drier tho. A A3 170TDI did show me how quick it is though, v rapid.

Mind since i have had it, 3 months, i no longer get people wanting to prove a point. Also i dont need to show anyone that when i rag my vrs it can just about keep up with them.

As for ford's and mondeo's.... they are a good piece of kit for what they are. New ones a baby Jag and that.

Rico

Totally with you there, it's an ok car, but not a world beater.

I get fed up of comparisons of VRS vs the world, although i will admit to baiting them from time to time when they do start

Rico, what a load of total rubbish. I haven't seen any posts of Fabia versus anything for a very long time, and even if they are there, so what? Unless you're a moderator it's not up to you what other people post.

Also, why after you complain about others posting fabia versus whatever, do you then you witter on about how the Fabia isn't 'even fast' anyway, which is even more boring and mundane. Why are so bothered and obsessive about the Fabia vRS and it's owners posts?

Your post is like one of those ranting letters from people who watch a TV program all the way through and then complain how they hated it. If you don't like the Fabia posts, don't read them.

As i stated in my original post, people would 'if you dont like it, do one' - congratulations, you win first prize for this. If you look around the forum, there was a post earlier today it was talking about the 170 cupra. Then someone came in and went on and on and on about his car beating a bmw, yadda yadda yadda.

All i posted for was to say, that posts of the nature my vrs is a racecar were starting to bore me.

Also about the fabia being, not 'even fast', i was trying to make a point for the disillusioned few.

'HotVRs' i have been a member on here for a while now and look at my post count. I only contribute to matters that i believe i can help in, like stereo issues or any other stuff i encountered in my ownership. This was a friendly forum and after posts like yours, i think why should i bother helping owners out.

Seriously he is allowed to express an opinion, for a thread where the fabia beats the world, eg two of us (me and another) going off at each other, see the Leon FR thread. His opinion is also one which it appears a fair few agree with

I agree, some people get carried away. A simple remap gives a competant car that feels very quick indeed. They are good cars indeed, infact I really miss mine sometimes. Its just the silly mustang slayer threads that are a little far fetched!

agree with rico the fabia is not a quick car my 306 diesel still has the upper hand on my fabia on straights and especially in bends

you wont get a quick car for 12 k brand new

I think the problem is there isn't a sub forum to talk about this - so all sorts ends up in the maintenance/fabia forum.

If there was an area where the X vs. Y could be discussed, that would sort things I feel.

TBH, Rico's post was fishing a bit; hence the replies.

Hi D,

I agree with you, a seperate forum for people to go on about their races would be a good idea. I had no intention on fishing, i just want to add value to the forums from a past owners experience. However highlighting the fact that there is no need for a vs. b has shown that other users are frustrated with this too.

Rico

I had a Peugeot 407SW (the 136bhp 6-speed auto one) and I changed it for a vRS. I did it mainly for tax reasons, but also because I was very frustrated at not being able to overtake anything in the Peugeot.

All the reviews of the vRS I read said it was a superb car for A-road overtaking. It is. You can drift along behind someone and when the opportunity presents itself you can overtake with some ease.

But the torque thrust makes it feel like you are rocketing away. You're not, it just feels like it. I would say anything upto a normal 2.0 petrol can be held by a stock Furby, but it just feels like it could take on anything and win. I honestly dread to think what the 250bhp ones feel like:)

Got the vrs up to indicated 130, 55 plate with 1700miles on the clock against a c5 hdi was quite surprised how quickly it got there."

One of yours Rico. ?

Ahh mate the problem with that 407 was the auto box, can confirm the manual flies :)

I hate pug auto boxes really not nice to drive :(

If you spent £12k on a 2nd hand car you could be getting your hands on the old M5 400hp and trust me that will not lose much in comparison to the VRs.

Also most come with built in Sat Nav & TV. Nappa Leather sublime handling and incredible pace 0-100 in 11sec and they max out (without the limiter) 186-190mph.

Of course you could go old school and get a Lotus Carlton.

So there choice is yours you could have a £68k car for £10-12k with 100k on the engine - not even run in or a frugal £12k new car which will probably lose £300pcm in value.
