Got the vrs up to indicated 130, 55 plate with 1700miles on the clock against a c5 hdi was quite surprised how quickly it got there."

One of yours Rico. ?

Hi Glider,

Looks like it. Seem to remember it was a top speed thread, about difference in top speed depending on whether the car was standard or remapped. I didnt start the thread boasting about beating others... nor did i jump into a thread completely off topic about beating other vehicles. If you have time to go through all my posts.... please go ahead.

Ahh mate the problem with that 407 was the auto box, can confirm the manual flies :)

I hate pug auto boxes really not nice to drive :(

No, the slushmatic was lovely, but totally mismatched to the engine, and colleagues who have the manual diesel 407 also thing they are extremely slow due to the weight. The fuel economy is appalling (also weight related) and there is no room in the back! I had the 3-litre auto couple for a bit too and that went as well as the furby. 17MPG though. FRom a diesel!

Also - have you had to replace any EGR valves on your 407? vRS's might have stutters, but they don't ditch you at the side of the road when the EGR valve shuts off completely on the Euro IV models. About 20,000 miles seems about right. One dealer in Norfolk is basically replacing them at major services on a precautionary basis! Then there was the almost weekly recall for a new remap. Overall though, I liked it a lot, looks the business in my opinion.

Don't own one, just took one on a test drive to compare against others.

17MPG from a manual Diesel,thats shocking :o:o

I'm now interested to find out what on earth had the dealer done to the one i test drove as that was getting 50 and was nippy for a car of it's size. :o:o:o

That engine in a focus is stunning too?

what is the furby like compared to the octy vrs ? i am looking to downgrade. buying a house so better economy is required. remap sounds best option for more poke.

Cheeky Monkey:rofl:

We have a Fabia vRS and Octy. Both are great fun.

In my opinion, the main problem people have on here, is accepting the actual performance of the VRS, you can't say its not a quick car, cos it is reasonably quick, when re-mapped your in Civic Type R territory, which i consider pretty quick, but on the other hand compare it to an Evo FQ-400, which i consider stupidly quick, and it makes the VRS look like its parked up. As far as an everday/hot hatch goes, its a quick car, probably one of the quickest, but it isnt a performance car.

The posts which people do go on about what they beat are quite frankly a bit boring, most people on here drive same/similar cars anyway so they know what the car is capable of, therfore we will know your lieing when you say u nailed a ferrari 355! So in some aspects i do agree with rico, some i dont.

I do believe that the fabia vs threads were banned along time ago

In many ways it comes down to the driver & their ability to drive also I'd imagine that most people dont want to drive over xmph due to risking losing their licence/crash.

At the end of the day all TDi's have basically made the slow driver now a quicker driver and they dont realise it.

Ive heard stories in Autocar that S Goodwin in his 1980's 911 Carrera2 was following a friend in the Honda Accord 2.0 i-cdti and he said that the accord pulled very hard out of the corners leaving a number of car lengths (apparently the other driver was just driving normally). However the point was he could have passed had he wanted to but that would involve really breaking the law.

The VRs in Silver looks great - although there is a hint that its on stilts as std! I like the front seats and the rears. The lack of std multichanger/MP3 port is annoying. The boot is adequate for a household of 2 as their main car. The performance for most people is again good.

If you drive a high powered turbo petrol (like mine 280hp in 1200kg) which revs to 7.5k up to I guess 3.5-4k the urge is similar but from there on the surge grows and gorws.

When I overtake if its less than 6 cars at 60mph I will leave her in 4th if however it is above that amount I will use third and unlike a diesel running out of puff at 70/75mph in 3rd mine keeps going until nearly 115mph in 3rd - note to all who think the coupe 20v Turbo is weak in 1st & 2nd 3rd in all std 20v turbo coupes is much faster as the boost is limited in 1st & 2nd. Before my chip etc it was bizarre 1st very quick 2nd less quick 3rd quicker than 2nd.

When I tested the VRs I found that generally once you got to around the 100mph mark progress was slow compare this to what Im used to and progress only starts to slow a bit by 135mph and then it keeps going until over 160mph.

Amazingly it returns 38mpg touring and combined it returns 30-32mpg. This is the brim to brim method (not trip computer).

As for ford's and mondeo's.... they are a good piece of kit for what they are. New ones a baby Jag and that.

Sorry, but it's definitely the other way around: X Type is a Mondeo in a posh suit, and no better - hence the whole "we can't launch it as FWD 'cos there's never been a FWD Jag, we can't make the Mondeo floorpan RWD as it's too expensive, therefore we'll have to make it 4WD to start with and sneak in the FWD versions when no-one's looking" thing. The only good thing about it is the marketing - it's a very clever way of tricking Americans who want to downsize from their Caddy barges into thinking they're buying a foreign car...

God, I hate X Types! Now that Rover's gone, they're the last vestige of the "sod it, this'll do" attitude of the 'British' car industry

IMO!

Excellent post.

Pretty much sums up the car for me. Its quick* but there are quicker cars out there.

*By quick I mean for road use.

But in my experience no quicker than any other 130bhp diesel offering there ;) As Welshy says, diesels give the illusion of speed and the instant torque in gear make the car less challenging to drive for Joe Average....

Chris

Gee ONE stupid thread and they can't ever get over it...

Make sure you get the maximum feeling of smugness and superior smarts out of it... Then get back to life..

I think that value for money wise the Vrs takes some beating. It's frugal, cheap to insure and keeps it's value to a decent percentage. The Vrs is my first derv car I have bought and to be honest I would probably by another one. I enjoy the low torque and general ease of driving which suits my down to a tee. I do very little motorway driving and when I get the chance I like to blow a little bit of smoke now and again. Given the choice I would probably opt for a petrol engine over a diesel but to be honest the only cars I would go for would be the Ford ST, Octavia Vrs or Leon Cupra. The little Fab turns heads and certainly suprises a few more prestigious models out there. My car has been very reliable and I am glad that I opted for this model and will probably buy from the same manufacturer again.

Bas mate, your care will handle well and be quick, but you have spent a fair bit on it.

I did say that if you spend a wedge of cash on a furby then yeah, it is a good car, personally i'm just fed up of people making stupid claims about taking cars which will obviously eat if for lunch if trying.

Not trying to be smug or anything mate :)

Now this post fully makes sense (given your buying new). It is fast enough for most occasions & if like me you live down the S.E. then there is really very little opportunity to overtake on A roads during rush hour.

If I were buying 2nd hand and wanted a car under say 5 years old the LCR makes a lot of sense.

Indeed they do give an illusion with all the torque, i agree, but its still reasonably quick. I dont know of that many 130bhp dieslels, out of the VAG, i mean for examply there is my dad vectra 1.9 CDTI running approx 150 bhp, our cars are about equal, but his is an SRi too, so again, its one of the better diesels, and my insurance is cheaper than insuring my previous car, a 1.0L Suzuki Swift, by a 100 quid, dont even know why but still.....the Fabia deserves credit, you cant say its slow, bcos it isnt, what people do need to realise is that it isnt a supercar, its a hot hatch! :P

Warm hatch.

So a big heavy Vectra is as quick as your car? ;) So what you're actually saying is that the Fabia vRS is no quicker than the average diesel rep mobile? ;)

I'm also surprised no-one dug up this thread either

Chris

with more horse power what do you expect? oh and it only weight around 150kgs more, so not that much heavier really?! Once mapped it would rape it. and no its not an average reps car is it? its an SRI! as in vauxhalls attempt at a hot hatch, then theres VXR which is there attempt at performance. Why are u on a Skoda forum if u cant credit the car?

Oh FFS, grow up!

I'm not trolling or biting today, but just "once remapped".... you can remap other cars as well as the fubry VRS world.. no universe beater you know.

It's not a bleeding d1ck waiving competition you know it's a damn car!

me grow up?!?! who are you exactly?, im on a Skoda forum bcos i love my car, not to be told its average and its not quick.

   another classic quote...

...some threads should just be locked:rolleyes:

who cares how slow or fast it is? is it really that hard to ignore peoples post about who the beat in race?

fair comment, but whats point in being on forum if your only gonna say bad stuff about a car?
