What sort of thing were they asking (if you can remember)

I did my MCSE in win 2k , then the Upgrade for the exchange 2000 exams to get MCSE with Messaging. I did the Upgrade exams again for Win 2k3 but I wouldn't mind doing the exchange 2k3 stuff as well

They were all scenario based questions (which i hadnt really studied for)

the meat of the test was security, frontend/backend stuff, ports and IPSEC

theres a couple of nasty ones in there about global addressing too.. i probably got it wrong because the question was badly worded

I think I passed one of mine with exactly the pass mark years ago. I guess it's not that strange when you think there are usually less than 40 questions so they must be marked in multiples of 10 so round number results are inevitable.

It does seem odd.. i think the question-point weighting is probably biased.. they also say in the T&C thats theres probably at least one "beta" question in there too that you dont get scored for.

Its very granular in the results, like above.. most the questions were regarding security, and one maybe two of another subject..

Im just glad its out the way.. and now i know what to expect i should be able to get a wiggle on and take some more... winXP next me thinks.. should be fairly easy once ive read the book

If only it was that simple.

Almost all IT exams are marked out of 1000 , but some have a minimum score even if you get all the questions wrong! , and there's often different numbers of questions.

I've had some with odd numbers like 63 questions for example , and not all of them are worth the same number of points. A simple 4 option question may be worth 10 points but a hard "pick 3 from 6" question can be worth 30 points.

I don't think I've had a round number score on any of the exams I've taken and on at least one I've beaten the pass mark by about 3 marks.

Well done Colin.. a good start to the year

Yup... ive already updated my CV :D

I thought the XP exam was easy, but you do need to read up first as they throw in all sorts of obscure stuff and even some server stuff. Do you use testking or similar?

I find them useful as a study aid, not to learn the answers - what would be the point?

Yup... ive already updated my CV :D

Well done Col.

I took the TCP/IP exam in beta - 230 questions, IIRC

Bloody hell , how long did they give you for that one Nick?

Congrats.

A pass is a pass, no matter how tight the margin ;):D

I was just thinking that. Your score indicates that you still have a life/personality ;)

Excellent news Col.

Just the ticket. Fancy learning for 70-315?

A slightly belated, but no less congratulatory

Thankyou everyone

next question: What exam should i take next? and how long should i prepare for them? maybe one a month?

How about one for a proper OS :D

Hehe. :) Is 284 your first exam?

If so 70-290 is a good core Win2k3 exam
