Help me beat the dealer!!

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Test drove a VRS today and have decided I want one!

I'm going for:

Black Metallic

Cruise

Heated Seats

Toying with Xenons.....

I currently drive a Saxo VTR (Y plate, 53k).

The deal he has currently offered (and this is without any attempt at haggling by me as of yet)

Car: 12,960

My Car: 2,300

Cash Deposit: 1,588

Value Left: 9,072

36 payments of 252.00 at 0%

Now the dealer has told me that's his first offer - any ideas on what to try on?!? Ideally I'd like rid of that cash deposit (although I have it if I need it)....

So come on, help a newbie out!

That's a huge amount of money. Nearly £13,000.

If he doesn't decide to drop the price by atleast £2000. Then look elsewhere (In my opinion anyway.)

I really can't believe that price...

You can pick up a brand new Fabia vRS, with no extras in the £10,000 (bracket.) With 0% Finance, As I was proven this when coming to sell my car.

I would be aiming myself at paying... £2,000 less. But every little helps.

The 1500 you want off seems reasonable!

Cool, I felt a bit like I was getting bent over!

Right, any advice on how to go about it? Simply tell him I want it for 11,400 and see what he says?

Citroen Saxo VTR

1.6 Petrol 3-door Hatchback

5 Speed Manual Front Wheel Drive

Year: 2001 Y

Mileage: 53,000

Estimated value of your car

Part-exchange Price:

Excellent condition:

£2320

Average condition:

£2060

Below average condition:

£1810

The £2300 trade in seems a good offer , the new price is full list price.

Broadspeed do them for £11999 with your chosen options which is £1000 off list price (11400 for standard)

You should be able to get close to this but I don't think £2k off is a realistic figure

Have you tried getting a quote from the likes of Drive The Deal ?

You could then use that (assuming that it IS a better deal & you don't use them instead) as a bargaining tool & sell the Saxo privately.

Having a look at Drive The Deal now....

Good offer for the Saxo I thought, and I can do without the hassle of selling it privately if I can avoid it at all!

This forum is top draw - keep the advice coming!!

Right, Drive The Deal price is £11,777.18 - so I'd want that price at least!

That's a huge amount of money. Nearly

I used Drive the Deal as my reference point when I went knocking on doors. I tried several dealers till I got the deal I wanted, they originally said we only have a 7% margin but stick to your guns and you can do better. I got just over

Why not? It is the book price.

The dealer knows he can and will sell at that price. You will get a grand off it with the dealer at a push but not two.

Taking the cheapest isn't always the best option. I paid 13k for mine from a dealer (I had a few options) I have used for years for the simple reason of good service. They have really been good with me (Despite some additions to the car ;) ) and that has been worth the extra few hundred quid I could have saved going through a broker. They have also offered me a good trade in deal which going by what I am seeing on here is because they know the car.

Horses for courses. The VRS is a car that doesn't seem to leave the buyer with many choices being the niche car that it is. I have been looking at Signums and a 8 month old fully loaded Elite 150bhp CDTI is going for

Opinions please!!

He claims I need 30% to trigger the 0% APR.....

Cost of Car £11,600.00

30% Deposit £3,480.00

P/ex £2,100.00

Cash £1,380.00

Figure to Finance £8,120.00

Ask for the terms and conditions to the 0% APR. See if its true, he might move if you ask for them.

As the 0% is a Skoda offer, check out there website for terms and Conditions, although as an ex-carsaleswoman they sound about right.

If you have gotton

Thanks Lady! Will check the Skoda site out.

I might go the route of asking for 12 months tax, mats and some "go juice" and a deal will be done.....

EDIT: Finance offer is here but with no T&Cs. No mention of minimum deposit though?

The vRS comes with mats. I think the skoda OTR price includes 12months RFL so if the dealer try's his luck it's a bit naughty.

Some good advice there though Amanda

I seem to remember that around 11% was the margin on a new Skoda.

You are right about the OTRP, but my dealer (Horners) did the deal thinking the car would be delivered before Christmas 2005, but unfortunately it took 5 months to build and went into the next finacial quarter for the Dealer and I think he might have lost a bit of money on the car. so 'Accidently:rolleyes:' I received only 6 months tax! i got a letter to sort it out beofre I would sign for delivery though:D

Usually the salesmen will have around 7% to play with and the Sales Manager will have a little up his sleeve that he doesn

So all in all, seems a pretty good deal to me!

The car I test drove didnt have any mats in so will check on that.

Love this forum - it's top stuff! I'm waiting for a call from another dealer (:) Stu), but at the moment this seems like it might be the deal for me. I'd like to check on that 30% thing though....Google here I come!

As the good lady E says Dealer margins are 5 - 7% (used to be 15% when I worked for Lada in the late 1980's - but car prices were also relatively higher then.

BUT

Dealers get additional bonuses for selling more cars. so it may be worth them selling at a loss to get the additional car or 2 sold. Sorry state of affairs really but it's what gets dealers sales up.

You could try Motorpoint: UK's No1 Car Supermarket - New and Nearly New Cars they have new Fabia VRS' in cheaper. BUT the car may be an import rather than UK specification. and come time to sell you will have problems (as a friend with a Freelander found - despite the car was full UK Spec she still cannot sell it 5 months later).
