I'm starting to put together a list of the known issues and fixes related to the Octavia II A5 platform based on the information that I have.

Take a look, see if you find it useful and if you have any that you know about then please let me know.

I have more to add myself yet, time permitting.

Nice one...should help a few people, its a good resourse to keep updated.

Creaking suspension - plenty of mentions here.

Aircon flaps sticking resulting in hot air only

Turbo's failing - my dealer said there was a history of this on the 1.9 engine although not on the 2.0 (like mine).

Cruise control stalk failing.

Creaking suspension - plenty of mentions here.

Has anyone had any luck having that sorted ?

Mine wouldn't do it when the garage had it out for a spin (wet day), although when I went out it initially wouldn't do it but then with a slight acceleration while going over the ramps its seems to do it. They sprayed some lube but it didn't help at all.

Last night I found accelerating over uneven surfaces as opposed to just letting the car coast over them also seems to make it creak. It was bad last night with the Cold Dry evening.

I was also going to mention the rattle in the rear seats clips...but theres been no fix for it yet AFAIK.

Sorry for going slightly off the topic.

Added a couple of those on now thanks.

Already had the Cruise Stalk one, Alex have you had the vent flaps sticking on yours?? I've heard of it on the Fabia but can't recall it on the Octy.

Well done Stu, with me looking at a newer vRS any day soon, it is nice to know

what to look out for.

Indicators not self-cancelling - part of a more general stalk problem?

I assume it was the vent flaps causing the aircon problem as turning the engine off and on again would produce a clicking noise somewhere under the dash and it then worked fine.

The car is in for it's first service next friday so I'm hoping that they will get the creaking suspension figured out. It wasn't the bushes causing it so it might be the steering rack as mentioned in my thread specifically about the problem.

There is a TSB on that one Alex. Already on the list but basically involves modifying the Climatronic Eprom settings at the dealers.

Hence the idea to collate and share the information we have. ;)

STREAM HU not ejecting CD's from time to time - just displaying 'CD ERROR' on screen. Eventually releasing cd's a couple of days later for no reason.

I had something similar with my Stream. Cured by replacing it with a MFD2.:D

First of all, excellent initiative

I don't know whether this counts as a common fault, it only happened to me once, but I seem to recall someone else mentioning it:

DSG gearbox refuses to change gear when hot (1.9 tdi 105bhp).

After about an hour's stop/start driving with the DSG left in Drive on the Paris p

Creaking suspension - plenty of mentions here.

Aircon flaps sticking resulting in hot air only

My creaking suspension has been traced to a rear tie rod fault. Waiting to have new one fitted so can't comment on if this is the fix yet.

Thanks John, whilst not wishing to dismiss your problem I would prefer to keep it to the ones we commonly hear of so as not to give people the wrong idea. Thanks for your input.

Tezza that certainly sounds interesting, please do let us know how you get on.

Pity you weren't still sitting in yours when it went :P

I am due to collect my new 07 RS in 7 to 10 days. Are most of the issues now resolved at this stage or can I look forward to failing cruise control, suspension creaks etc..

I don't think you'll be affected by the cruise control problem as they faulty stalks are no more.

I don't really get suspension creaking except if it's been wet.

I think many of the ones listed have been resolved on the newer cars.

I hadn't realised that the clicking noise from the climatronic was a fault! Thanks for letting me know, but I think it can wait until the first service is due.

Does anyone else have a squeaky steering wheel or is it just me?

BOOT CD CHANGER PROBLEM IN OCTAVIA TDi 'ELEGANCE'

I previously-reported to BriSkoda the interference on the audio when using boot cd changer with engine running and/or headlights lit in my 2006 (A5) Octavia TDi. Six months down the line, my dealer now says Skoda will authorise rememdy by local top guru car audio company. I had to take it to the wire with County Court action to get the fault fixed. It's been a lot of hassle - far removed from the trouble-free experience with my 2001 Octavia 1.9TDi - but the car is otherwise excellent, and especially the new rear suspension.

Update 26th January 2007: Dealer took the car to CATS (CATS for cars - Contact: Jason) and the problem is COMPLETELY ELIMINATED, and under warranty too. CATS added a suppressor to the power lead behind the in-dash unit and changed earthing of the leads at the changer. Quick job. If you have this problem, PERSIST - both Skoda Technical Dept and 'Customer Care' try hard to fob you off and stonewall. Total contrast with my EXCELLENT dealer: Skoda Retailer

Stu: Car is A5 with mp3 jack in centre cubbyhole and mp3 capability in in-dash Stream player. CD player is CD only, but plays home copies just fine.

That is a good point Tony.

Many on here have reported similar noises from the CD Changer. Can I ask do you have a Stream MP3 and do you have the input jack?

Job well done Stu.

I regret here in Italy Octy isn't widespread, tho it's a great car. Mine is the 1.6 fsi petrol estate, seems its not so common even in UK...

I'm currently facing a mice issue (living in the country, no garage yet) . Anyone having any idea bout how to stop these little dangerous pests from intruding the engine compartment?

No other complaints till now (lets keep fingers crossed...)

hiya all from Rome

Alex
