Might not work.

If the Cat follows the mice into the engine bay and it's nice and warm it will kip there for the night. Result is you turn on your engine the next day, the cat get's a shaved tail and you get a new timing belt, or if you are very unlucky your power steering will go while driving and you will crash. Happened my Dad :(

Lumps of poisoned cheese set around the engine bay? Add some toast and you could end up with a nice Welsh Rarebit.

STREAM HU not ejecting CD's from time to time - just displaying 'CD ERROR' on screen. Eventually releasing cd's a couple of days later for no reason.

stream HU also losing ability to tune radio stations while it holds on to the CDs. I am on my 3rd stream so far in a year :-(

Rain sensitive wipers.

Absoluteley hopeless.

Seem to have a mind of their own and cant be turned off.

And yes, I do know how to use them, they just dont work properley

I think I've mastered the wipers on mine to be honest.

Agreed they have a mind of their own but they can be turnd off.

Put the wiper stalk in the lowest position and auto wipe is off. Use the second and third positions that give normal wiping at standard and fast speed.

If this is not happening then you have a fault that needs to be seen to.

Well on mine they definitely cant be turned off, other than off alltogether.

First position gives intermittent (this is where they have a mind of their own)

Second and third give constant on slow and fast. Problem here is that they are speed sensitive. Sitting at a junction or in a que and they stop until the car moves again.

In my opinion they are dangerous.

They have been checked out now about five times and the dealers still say they are OK but agree they have numerous complaints.

What I want is for the automatic rain sensor function to be turned off completely but apparently it cant be done.

Do you not use the slider on the top for the sensitivety?

Do you not use the slider on the top for the sensitivety?

I think mine is set at second notch in from full, the odd time it seems weird but nothing to the extend of what I'm hearing on here.

When it is very light intermittant rain, I leave my stalk in "off" and just give it an occasional dab downwards for the single wipe.

The sensor works okay in other positions but it is a bit annoying when the wipers stop completely because you have pulled up at a red light.

My Octy is going in a second time so the dealer can try and fix Creaks and Cracking sounds from the dash when the heater is coming up to temperature. These are really loud and happen most often when going over a bump or pothole.

Don't think this can be the Climatic Flap issue as the noise is loud and sounds like plastic on plastic expansion problem.

Was told after first visit that this is a known problem and they 'lagged' the air vents?

Has anyone had any luck having that sorted ?

Mine wouldn't do it when the garage had it out for a spin (wet day), although when I went out it initially wouldn't do it but then with a slight acceleration while going over the ramps its seems to do it. They sprayed some lube but it didn't help at all.

Last night I found accelerating over uneven surfaces as opposed to just letting the car coast over them also seems to make it creak. It was bad last night with the Cold Dry evening.

I was also going to mention the rattle in the rear seats clips...but theres been no fix for it yet AFAIK.

Sorry for going slightly off the topic.

Hi Gaff,

You need a new steering rack to sort out the creaking. I had mine done and it's perfect now.

BEST WAY OF FIXING ANY VRS PROBS IS SELL UP(GET SHUT ASAP!!!!!):finger:

Two questions.

1) Why do you always type in CAPITALS?

2) Why do you bother hanging around this forum when all you can provide is negative comments?

Mine is exactly the same, the dealer has ordered some new modified vents, obviously a known problem.

There is a TSB regarding that, you require new defrosting grilles in the dash -

1Z0 819 695 A 47H – left side

1Z0 819 696 A 47H – right side

Thanks for the info VRStu - you are a mine of useful information. Just a pity the dealers don't seem to be so clued up

My 2.0 TDi Sport is going in to the dealer a week today for a rubbing sound coming from the steering and a creak from the front nearside suspension.

Whenever I turn the steering wheel to the left, quite a loud rubbing noise can be heard coming from somewhere in the steering. This doesn't happen when turning the wheel to the right.

Will this combined with the suspension creak be the steering rack?

I would say it sounds like a new rack for you. They will take it in and read one of the measured values to send back to Skoda who will confirm if it needs to be changed.

Thanks for the reply. We'll see what happens next week and I'll let you know the result.

Just collected my vRS from service, and had reported a few faults, excesive rear tyre noise and wear (loosing tread at the same rate as the fronts), indicator periodically fails to self cancel and tapping from the air con.

Local dealer recons nothing can be done about tyre noise, but they were supprised about how quickly the rears were going down. The air con and indicator problem required upgrades to the firmware, but as my vRS is an early one (jan 06) then they cant install the firmware "as it affects other functions".

This has been refered to Skoda Technical, so any suggestions? Also my spare wheel well is collecting water! seems to be coming in near the boot catch, anyone else had this problem?

A guy here needed a new set of rear tires after 12k miles due to this. It turned out his camber was out, and was adjusted. Someone told me here that they had this complaint by a could of owners but due to no bulletins on the subject it was dismissed. From what I gather once you go over about 5k miles they say its normal wear & tear, but this ain't right....rear tires after 12k, not a chance.

Some more info here, http://www.briskoda.net/forums/new-octavia/tyre-noise/55166/2/?highlight=camber

Also it has been seen as an issue here, Octavia-vRS.com - Octavia A5 Common or Known Problems and Issues showing the correct values

What sort of mileage have yours covered and what iare the tread depths? Mine has covered 20K and the tread depths measured at a recent service to be 3mm on the fronts and 4mm on the rear. The rears do seem to have worn quicker than normal.

Thanks to VRStu I was able to tell my dealer what the fix was for my creaking/cracking dash - they were NOT aware of the TSB.

Parts now on order but I was told they are on shortage, obviously there are quite a few other Octys with the same problem.

This is a seriously useful thread, should it be made a 'sticky'
