Water in boot from rear window

Featured Replies

I have horrendous interior condensation problems on the rear window and the boot carpet feels damp to the touch. I also found yesterday that I have a lake in the spare wheel compartment

I asked the main dealer to have a look at it last week while it was in for something else and their response was that boot seal was OK and to 'monitor' it......:grumpy:

Spent 10 minutes looking at it yesterday armed with a few ideas from here regarding different seals etc, however I found that the water ingress is from the bottom rubber seal / channel of the rear windscreen.

Specifically from the wiper across to the edge of the window on the drivers side, pour water into the channel and some of it finds it was inside the vehicle.

Has anyone else had this before? Is it a known issue? The seal looks OK and I can't see any obvious signs of perishing.

Vehicle is a MY2004 vRS. Cheers.

Hmmm another water in the boot/dampness problem, which also sounds like the problem I'm having (dampness in the boot on drivers side in the corner just below rear window). At least you know where yours is leaking from which is a bonus :) - I'm still looking :(

If I open the tailgate after it has rained, water runs down and pours onto the speakers. I now find myself using a small squeegee before opening the boot (if I remember), or a cloth if I don't !

Yours an estate or a hatch, and do you mean water finds its way in when the boot is closed or when you open it?

If the above was directed at me; mine is a hatch and the water finds its way in when the boot is closed.

Booked it in to the main dealers today, who said they wanted it for two days so that they can order parts - this was after I told them where the water was getting in, so don't know if they have had this issue before and know it is a new seal??

Will let you know when I get it back next Tuesday

Have my new vRS 2 a week and noticed driving home that part of the rear windscreen did not clear. Sure enough, there was condensation on the inside in that area so gave inside a window a wipe, and noticed a bit of moisture around the seals. Is this normal ?

M005 did you get this sorted?

Flanno i get the same on my 51 vRS and my boot doesnt get wet or damp so id say its normal

I had a little dribble up the inside of the window.

I guess an easy, but at your own cost solution would be to take the car to a decent autoglass etc depot, and get them ot take the rear off and put it back on.

Obviously if you are under warrenty, then take it to a different dealer and prove the fault to a mechanic. They they will probably do the same.

Sorry for not replying sooner.

Yes the main steeler did sort the problem out, I told them exactly where the leak was when I dropped it off and was told they had fited a new rear window seal and also resealed the welded seam.

It doesn't leak now, either from a hosepipe test nor the heavy rain over the last couple of days. The car smells better inside, the boot floor is now dry to touch and the mould has not returned to the spare wheel well.

All in all I am pleased......just don't mention the tracking which is still out after they have supposedly sorted it no less than three times......

I notice a very slight streak down the middle on the inside of my rear window - at first I kept trying the rear washer to clean it until I realised it's on the inside.

Haven't looked into it much as it's not a serious leak or anything but I'll keep an eye on it while i still have warranty.

Sounds like I'm not the only one then!

The rear washer works fine though and there's no dampness anywhere.
