wow.. wonder if other manufactures will follow suit?

I quite like the look of the new Ceed as well.. :)

Ah looking at the other Ceed thread.. it's only 7-year warranty on engine and gearbox.

But still 5-year warranty on rest of car! :)

Yes but lets face it - what else is there to go wrong with the rest of the car? Its just fairly simple things like electric windows, central locking, dash electrics etc.

Well done to Kia.

Is it limited mileage though ?

The reason Kia can offer a 7 year warrnanty is that towards the end of the 7 year period the car is worth utterly s0d all and a broken electric window makes it a write off. Not that it is a matters, you can pick up a brand new one for about $3.

Good call Emily.

sounds like someone that knows what they are on about

Someone usimg your account Emily??

:P :D

It does look nice on the telly I suppose. Can't say it's probably ****, as i've never even driven a Kia, although I've drunk lots of Kia Ora. "I'll be your daawg"

I seem to remember Skoda having the same reputation not that long ago ......

Perhaps. But when you compare the resale values of the fabia to the Rio. Fabia being the third least depreciating car, in comparisson to the Rio which you could swap for a bacon sandwich in value terms.

Shifty - who would be using my account :P

You must of missed where was said 'not long ago.'

Skoda made an improvement. Why can't Kia?

I did not miss the point that is why I said ''Perhaps'' to Beratta's comment. Kia seem to sell their cars on the basis that you can drive one away for

It's rather funny reading that people think Kia are crap especially when you consider Skoda's past reputation...which still holds true for many people.

How all manufactuers get people to buy their products isn't really anything to do with the products at all....it's just spin bullsh*t!

Look at how much Skoda's cost now....not the WFM they were with the first gen Octavia...but now they've enhanced their rep they've upped the price and downgraded their customer services.

Kia is trying to build up it's brand by producing a better product from their past.

yeah very much agree adrian. being honest Skoda is turning into the company that it was set out to undercut and beat in performance of their value for money and quality product.

Okay, Skoda had a bad rep.

Nothing, and I mean NOTHING would convince me to buy a Kia.

Cue VW announce they're selling skoda to a korean car company! ;)

Why did you buy a Skoda E-E?

I assume you've owned/driven a Kia before.

Hmm...I used to say the same about Hyundai when they only built the Pony and Sonata , but I wouldnt mind a Hyundai Coupe!! Car companies can improve , and IMHO the ones from the asian 'tiger economy' will be the fastest improving ones of the lot. I reckon China will be the next 'big thing' in the global car industry over the next 20 years. Remember in the 1970s everyone (especially in America) used to laugh at Japanese cars...well they aint laughing now , are they?? :)

I own a Skoda because my Mum picked one up cheep for me to learn to drive in and then I joined a Skoda community and got 'sold' a Fabia almost immediatly.

I would not buy a Kia because they are souless korean packed lunch boxes on wheels sold to suckers who are tricked in to thinking they are getting a bargin and like 0% on finance deals. I truely pity them.

Maybe Kia will cut the mustard and I will eat my words, but really!! Why would you get a Rio over a focus or a picanto over an aygo unless you are tighter than a nun's crack when it comes to money?

Part of the reason for the 7 year warranty is to try and increase the re-sale values of the poor mites. Also Hyundai/Kia are one of the worlds largest car manufacturers and the Hyundai Group is one of the largest companies in the world, they build computer chips and ocean vessels. So basically they can afford to give such long warranties. American Hyundais carry a 10 year powertrain and engine warranty.

My Hyundai is not souless at all, it's got 10x the charachter that my Fabia had,

As for being as tight as a nuns crack, you got me there, no denying that:D

More badge snobbery on a Skoda forum!!!

SWMBO's Hyundai Getz is considerably better put together than my Fabia ever was. That might be why it has a 5 year warranty and has NEVER been back for warranty work since being bought in March 04. How many Skoda snobs can say that I wonder?

Yes it was cheap to buy and some of the materials are lower quality but for what it is - a cheap car, it's considerably better than the equivalently priced Skoda (1.2). It's also considerably faster

Hyundai/Kia WILL go from stregth to strength. Watch this space....

Aren't Hyundai/Kia etc the reason why the american manufactures are in so much financial trouble atm?

Is the lunch box comment and being souless cars due to your experience on ownership?
