Service intervals....

Featured Replies

My 1.9tdi Superb Elegance had it's first service at around 15,250 miles after the on-board computer told me it was due. The car is on the extended service set up or whatever its' called!

It has now done just over 30,000 miles but the service reminder has not yet appeared. I would have thought it was about due. I rang the dealer today and they told me that if it hasn't appeared by the time the car has done 35,000 miles to take it in for service!

From others experience, at what approximate mileage does the second service become due? I realise a lot depends on the way the car is used etc but the dealer did not seem able to give a reasonable explanation.

As far as i know 'variable service' should come on either at 2 years or 20k, but this is dependant on the way the car is driven.

My octy had its first at 20k and its second at 38k, only 3 years old.

Can you not push the button and see how many miles is left to service?

What button? Would be interested to know if there was one. I thought the variable service indicator looked at quality of oil to see when it was required.

I've done about 18,000 since last service and the message hasn't appeared yet, however booked it in for service mid feb as want some warranty work done at the same time, before it's 3 years old.

I dont think you can press a button to find out, If you can please post so i can check mine.

For information my Superb 1.8T is on variable servicing and there is a sensor that determines when a service is due based on oil quality. However it will come on after a set time period anyway (I think it's 2 years). My car usually does between 18,000 and 20,000 miles before I see the service indicator and I do drive it relatively hard but always on long journeys. I would think that if you do lots of stop start driving it could come on sooner.

There is no button to push - on some other VAG cars you can pull on the trip reset button to get the miles to next service, but this doesn't work on the Superb (or on the B5).

There is no monitor of "oil quality", it's not that sophisticated. It measures distance, time, number of starts and number of cold starts. The sensor in the bottom of the sump measures oil level and oil temperature.

Although my car is presently on variable servicing to enable it to get to the end of its warranty without me having to pay Skoda any money for a service (I do my own work), I think variable servicing is a sop to the fleet market and is not at all good for the vehicle.

Mine will get an annual or 10k mile oil change with 505.01 oil when out of warranty.

rotodiesel.

My Elegance has just done 19K miles since the last service, the "Service Now" message has just come up.

Looking at rotodiesel's post it probably wont work but on the new Octavia you can switch on the ignition (but not the engine) and then press and hold the trip reset...a spanner symbol appears with the miles to next service.
