VAG Com Arrived - So the questions start

Featured Replies

I have quickly installed the latest version of Vag-Com (607) and thought I best go and plug it into the car and check what happens.

Always remembering the outlay of

Pretty sure thats the last time that fault occured.

I've done some fidling offline and found the Long Coding tool (lcode.exe) that came with VAG-COM.

so i took the code and pasted it in 1)

1)3F3F0740072303

2)clicked "read info text file" chose to open file "19-3C0-907-530-7byte.xpl" as it seemed to match the Part No SW: listed above

but I cant really fumble my way through the rest..... not even sure if i have opened the right file - or indeed barking up the right tree here....

but looking at section 3) and clicking byte 3 it highlights bit 6 [56] radio [analog]

perhaps this is the problem and it should be bit 3 [37] Navigation as i have the MFD2 installed after PDI.

Yep, you have installed MFD2 haven't you Ray. Exactly what I keep bleating on about, you need to tell the car you have it fitted.

The guide is on my MFD2 install page.

Edit - the guide doesn't actually tell you explicitly what to do. But you need to put a tick in the controller 37 Navigation box Bit 3.

I have also just read Vrs-stu website again and noticed the following statements....

Coding the car using CAN-BUS compatible VAG-COM

When installing the MFD2 into a car not previously equipped with an MFD2 you will need to recode the CAN Gateway, Radio and your new Navigation Controller. Before changing the coding of any controller it is essential that you make a note of the original coding of that unit.

CAN Gateway - Controller 19

This controller uses Long Coding, recoding should be carried out using the Long Coding Helper built into VAG-COM.

Stu, can you confirm please

Do'h you obviously replied as soon as I hit "Post Reply".....

I take it from your comments I am not the first to ask - Sorry.

Could I trouble you for some more "VAG-Com" for dummies help with some screenshots.

Dont fancy dropping the car at the dealers on a flatbed lorry !

Leave bit 6 enabled as well, cause you still have a radio fitted.

Remember what I told you about making backups (I know you are a Computer Techie but break the habit of a lifetime) before tweaking!!

I've just modified the page. Look again now.

Hah - dropped in Vag-Com again (offline)

From your website, I assume I can just click Select > 56-Radio then check the softcode is correct - and change.

I can just click Select > 37-Navigation then check the softcode is correct - and change.

Obviously remembering what they started with !

Screenshot everything first.

Set up the CAN Controller by adding 37.

Then check the softcode of the Navigation.

Then check the softcode of the MFD/Radio.

Good idea about storing the screenshots.

I think I get this now... (I here the big sigh)

use the long coder to help change the correct code by ticking the relevant boxes which in this case will enable Controller [37]

Copy the new code into the clipboard and paste back into Vag-Com ?

Sorry nearly there - won't complete my understanding until I am connected back to the car.

Thanks again for your help Stu :handshke:

No problem mate - good luck.

Unless you've got a Passat, that's not the right file.

If you do the following:

[select]

[19-CAN Gateway]

[Coding-07]

[Long Coding Helper]

The coding will appear in Long Coding Helper automatically, and Long Coding Helper will also automatically open and load the correct .XPL file.

When you're done modifying the coding, just hit [Transfer Coding] and it will get put back in VAG-COM, where you can then click [Do It] to put the new coding in the car.

That long coding helper is a godsend.

I have made the change - Ticked [37] Navigation

Do it - then AutoScan - Same fault found???

So checked the softcode under 56 - Radio = 0000445

So changed that to read 0000412

Do it - then AutoScan - Same fault found???

Been to check soft code for [37-Navigation]=0000002

So went back to check [19-CanGateway] on Byte3 I have two ticks

[37] Navigation

[56] Radio (anolog)

Perhaps a "remote assistance" session over MSN Messenger is in order ?

Have you sorted this Ray?

  • Author

No -

Feel free to email me screen shots of the CAN Gateway and the fault code and I'll see if I can see what's up.

Are you sure you are clearing the code - open the controller individually and clear it.

Stu,

The screenshot of the previous setting is at the top of the thread, except it now has a tick in [37] Navigation and the code is different.

Are you sure you are clearing the code - open the controller individually and clear it.

All i have done is change the code and set it, not done anything to do with clearing???

Once the coding is changed you must clear the fault code from the system. Either do a scan and clear or just go to 37 as I said and choose fault codes and then clear codes.

  • Author

Cleared the codes on the controller - did a rescan

ALL SORTED !!!

Cheers.

Ahh the wonders of modern technology.
