you dont necessarily haveto use 'car' batteries.... you could go for an array of smaller batteries in parallel..... and these would be much easier to hide

Well, to be honest, hiding is not an issue. It's just the practicality of having parts of my engine bay in the boot, along with the propane/NOS, and still trying to use it as a boot (as much as is possible....)

lpg is irrelevant, as it's a really solid tank (you can jump on it, hit it with a hammer - will not budge) NOS might be a different issue but I believe a battery, inside a sealed battery box will not cause electrical/fire risks to anything in its proximity.

LPG is in a secure tank as Mr M-03 says, and even if the valve in the tank started to leak, there is a cap on top of it which seals the tank from the inside of the car and the lpg would merely vent through the hole in the boot floor and to atmos.

What about the battery in a nice box where the SMIC should be, especially is you get one of those small racing type batterys, access through a flap in the wheel arch ?

Well, the ultimate aim is weight re-distribution, not simply getting it out from where it is now. I could probably make the room needed by moving the battery through 90 degrees and leaving where it is, or pushing it further back toward the bulkhead - but it is boot bound.

No risk - that's pushing it a little hehehe :P

Alternative to false floor, you could do the split horizontally instead with the batteries say on the left hand side of the boot and the NOS bottle on top?

I should be asleep right now as getting up in 3 hours :eek: but something that looks roughly like two shoe-boxes on top of each other, like a square figure 8

Batteries in bottom, NOS on top, metal construction (perhaps you can do a simpler one and just have the bottom box with detachable plate.

That way you'd loose a little space on one side but more height, rather than loosing height throughout.

I think you're on to something there Mr W. Although it would mean having to move the NOS out the way to access the battery terminals, unless I can raise it up above the battery box a bit? Food for thought.

Um, with a front-wheel drive don't you want the weight to be over the drive wheels to help the LSD put the power down?

Yes - way too much. The weight of the engine is enough for the front end, so need a little over the back for general handling improvement. Especially as I tend to run with no backseats in....

If that's the case, then you've applied yourself with your usual intensity.

Move non-essentials out (rear seats)

Move relocatable back (Battery, NOS, LPG, girlfriend, etc)

Lighten anything that can be - Carbon Fibre bonnet

You could always lose the Aircon if you don't need it, but with global warming it's not advisable! If you do an internet search there's a US company that makes an aircon that runs on 12VDC for cars and works pretty good, in a light package. Put that in the back when the weather dictates.

Removing the air-con I always thought would be alot of hassle. Because of the belts that run it aswell etc. I think the air-con weighs about 25kg for the whole fitment.

air con pump weighs a LOT. I sold one on Ebay recently and the price to post it was loads. Not sure on how it's driven. I assume it's belt driven, but I don't think it's cambelt driven. Unsure how it works to be honest.

I have no aircon now anyway, so don't really mind if it went. That is a lot of weight to get off the front end for sure.
