AMD Remap

Featured Replies

Had my Skoda VRS estate now for just over 2 months, (car is actually 8 months old). Very impressed with it but it needed a bit more go :P

So I jumped on the AMD January remap offer over on the TT forum, (£449 inc vat) and yesterday took the skoda to see them in Bicester.

Standard, my car gave 202.7 bhp and 220 lbs, (it was cold yesterday and I always run 99ron V-power, not sure if this contributed to those figures).

After its time on AMD's rollers I was left with 248.6bhp, (but hey lets just call it 250hp ;) ) and 285lbs of torque, (hope my clutch and drive train will last  ).

Car feels great, very smooth, revs much quicker and now feels fast :D

All it needs now is some uprated anti-roll bars, (Note to Shifty - where did you get yours from, how much were they, and how much to fit?)

Oh and some Toyo T1'R front tyres, the Continentals are cr@p

Or... Call it 240, as they've got 207 as standard ;) :P

Was Revo a mistake I now wonder.

If your worried. Its still under 30days since you bought it ;)

The 285lbs of torque is lower than your REVO Harry.

I have seen another remap on a TFSi which gives a higher HP and lower torque, perhaps it's just how they strike the balance.

Either way I am sure they are both extremely competant cars with that sort of power.

Given the current discussion with REVO and the keen pricing at AMD, perhaps they will have to up their game a little or lose customers.

There is something very fishy going on and I cant quite put my finger on it. Whilst I am sure you are delighted with the results, the torque ft/lbs figure is way below what was achieved at the recent RR day on several REVO'd OctyII's which leads me to suspect that there is a trade off somewhere, bhp for ft/lbs?.

Perhaps the tests later next week with REVO will shed some light on this on going saga.

Yes, the torque is nice but personally I'd rather have more power

Hold tight mate for the moment, I'm confident we'll get to the bottom of this........................................................eventually :)

I hope so, not that happy with it atm if I'm being honest

Harry you should be pleased with the higher Torque figure, HP is pub talk really.

The torque is awesome no doubting that whatsoever.

Went on a run this afternoon though and going through the gears it just doesn't feel an awful lot quicker tbh.

I'm basing my opinion on road performance, not figures.

I am surprised you don't find it inspiring, I have driven a few and they always make me grin.

Could be worth taking a look at the DV. Maybe see if you can track someone down with a CANBUS Vagcom and log the boost pressure.

My car is not a cruiser. It is destined to be a B-road weapon where the rev needle goes code red and passenger's underwear code brown. :D

I would imagine that your peak torque is at around 6250 RPM so anything after that up to the red line is wasted effort, go for another cog and more loud pedal :P

Peak torque is in fact achieved between 2500rpm and 3500rpm, maximum bhp would be achieved at around the 6250rpm figure (I'm an expert now don't you know ;) )

Yes Mr Fish you are entirley right - That will teach me to try and finish writing a post with SWMBO yelling at me to take the ironing to her.

Im sorry but the Octy vRS is never going to feel like a B-road wepon... nor will it feel as fast as a remapped furby...

Why do you think Shifty is getting shut of his Octy? - Because the Fabia is more satisfying to drive, and i have to agree after my back to back test at the weekend

Really..............do you not recall saying this a few months ago :rubchin:

How can you compare a remapped Fabia VRs to a standard Octy VRs?

The fabia will probably feel faster - it's smaller and my experience of performance diesels is that they feel faster than they actually are anyway because of the torque kick.

Do you think a remapped fabia will feel as fast as a standard Ibiza Cupra TDI 160? If little derv shopping cars were my preference I'd be driving one of those I reckon

Yeah but 250hp (1bhp = 1.013hp SAE) sounds better down the pub :P

I spoke to the mapper at AMD before my car went on the rollers emphasising the fact I am hoping to keep this car a long time, (3 years for me then pass it over to my other half for a few more years). Its remapped at 1.2 bar dropping to 1.1bar towards the redline. Some tuners run 1.3bar or above, which gives higher figures, but our turbo is tiny, (runs 0.8bar standard) so even at 1.2/1.1bar I'm pushing it pretty hard. AFR is 11 something  , (can't remeber if he said 11.1 or 11.4/11.5). I'll upload my graphs later.

Driving yesterday car does feel so much better and now really makes me grin, (feels almost as fast as my previous car which was a modified 270bhp Fiat Coupe 20VT, except the Skoda handles better  ).

My friend who has a 330c may disagree. he now looking at a diesel for his next car.

Anyway lets stop this arguement before it begins

Don't get me wrong, I'm a diesel convert - although I haven't got one. Would have been a tricky decision when I got mine if the 170 pdi had of been available.

I had a play with an Ibiza cupra tdi yesterday (whilst travelling through Germany on the autobahn :) ). He was behind me and from 30ish through to about 95ish he stuck with me but after that I started to pull away a bit. Not much in it though.

Thats the thing isnt it. Up to 3 figures their isnt much of a difference. But past that and its bye bye along with your license

Who's Fabia is more satisfying than whos Octy?

Going off press reviews, Fabia is generally not highly regarded for it's chuckability, Octy, if not class leader, is considered to be pretty sweet. I rarely baz through the lanes, but when I do I'm always surprised by how well the car transforms from the family wagon role. It's just ace at both jobs.

I'm sure there are plenty smaller cars out there that make the Octy seem bloated, but is the Fabia really one of them...?
