Battle worn

Featured Replies

As some of you know myself and a couple of other TC members meet up at a local club on a tuesday night and compete in a M-03 race series. Great fun is had by all but it can get a little physical at times. We have gone some way to sort this by moving to two heats so there are less cars on track, but as the series is getting very popular we are almost back up to the same numbers again.

The upshot of this is that around 8 cars dont go into the first corner and some people get persuaded into a barrier or another car, this is all part of the fun and we dont take it to seriously. Anyhow the point of this rambling is that after four race meetings and alot of fun my shiny M-03M Suzuki looked a little battle worn.

A few reasons behind this, new driver skill (or lack there of, but getting better), poor preperation of the shell (didnt rough the shell up prior to painting so the paint flaked off) and the lack of a front foam bumper (now had an eagle racing one fitted). So when I spotted a body parts set for a reasonable price I thought i'd treat myself so the car looks presentable again, plus I enjoy painting.

Its not perfect by any means but i'm really happy with how it came out. My skills as a painter are improving I think and I have again learned by doing this one. The shell was properly prepped so the paint should be a little more resiliant to a 'few' knocks.

Comments good or bad welcome [:D]

Now looking forward to our Sunday GP that has being set up, a day of racing rather than just an evening!

Look's great

really pretty mate:thumbup:

Seems a shame to race it now..

Can't you paint it with epoxy clearcoat or summat to make it harder to knock chips off? Hate to see that sharp detailing get scratched....

Bas

Looks quite Professional to me

Perhaps you should practice "defensive driving techniques"

Looks good that mate.

Shush you!

I always used to apply a layer of duck tape to the inside of the car around the front to help stop splitting and the paint flaking off. Made the shells last alot longer i always felt.

A vert good idea, something I will do when the paint has cured fully. I also have some felt tape to run along the inside edge.

I spotted that name before but would never have copped it....it stood out a bit, I actually wondered if it was some sort of BMW M3 owner.

I was out Saturday with my RC, jaysus the dirt of it...spent 5 hours stripping and cleaning it today...mental not must stay off the grass   , it was damp so plenty of drifting :D. Its amazing how much abuse those body shells take.

Alreet mate:thumbup:

Little tip that Ive found works, bathroom sealant ;)

Wet your hand and apply some sealant in thin layers around the normal problem spots such as under the wheel arches and around the front bumper. :P

Ps, I know how you feel about bashing the shell up, I would go through a nitro shell every national meeting becuase the racing + practise could get a little rough! And my electric TC that used to look like this:

is now held together mostly by gaffa tape! Still have the Toyota to paint to, maybe next week..
