Drivers door - noise from seals.....

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Now i'm 99.99999999% sure that this is on here but i've just spent 30 mins going through 9 pages of Fabia forum search results and can't find owt!!!

My drivers door makes a noise when going over a bump as though the door seals are touching/moving against each other...... It's only noticable from the drivers seat but bugs me big style. I'm sure i saw somewhere that this was a common problem and that people have had it sorted by the dealers etc.......

Am i right??? And if so what was done to correct it???

The car is due it's first service in the next month or so and i was gonna mention it to them when it goes in but wanted to maybe point them in the right direction if people on here have had it sorted etc.....

Cheers

Dave.

bump!!! :)

Not had that but have had wind noise through the top of the door. I simply adjusted the striker plate on the frame and cured it so maybe you need to do the same?

I'd be very interested in a solution to this too! I was gona try some WD40 between the seals to see if that remedies it.....

Edit: What's a striker plate?

Edit: What's a striker plate?

I was just about to ask that too..... :D

It's definately a noise coming from the door seals/rubbers as though the door is moving slightly when going over a bump causing the rubbers to move against each other etc...... All the other doors are perfectly quiet. Also seems to be louder when it's cold

The striker plate is the plate on the B pillar that the door lock latches to. It's held by two large Torx screws but if you loosen them off you can adjust it up/down/in/out to adjust how the door closes within its aperture and how tight it is against the seal.

What size Torx head is that anyway? Do you need a rachet or will a screwdriver work?

I'll have a look at that...... Though the noise i'm talking about only comes from the top edge of the door and not any other part....... It's as though the door isn't properly shoot even though it is.

I have this too and dealer just adjusted the door they said which has made it less prone but it's still there.

The courtesy car was perfectly silent... so will have to bug them again to sort it out.

I can't remember what size Torx head it was but I had a selection that came with a set of screwdriver bits and one definitely fitted. I didn't need a ratchet to undo them either.

In relation to the noise at the top of the door check the shape of the door and the seals and have a look down them when the door is slightly ajar so that you know which way to adjust. I think the door will need to go down to give more compression to the top seal so adjust the striker plate down and possibly in but not too far or it'll not shut properly. You may need to do it bit by bit.

silicon spray can be used to lubricate the seals , it repels water as well

Mine doesn't seem to be a noise from the window though....... More the seals on the door & bodywork themselves rubbing together or touching / not touching as i go over bumps..... My window doesn't rattle at all......... I've mentioned it to the dealer and they're gonna have a look when it gets serviced in a couple of weeks..... Possibly adjust / re-align the drivers door.

The windows rattle like nobodies business in the CTR though!!!!! The official fix??? Silicon grease on the edges of the window at the very front of the door..... It lasts a few months before you need to re-apply again.

Yes, it sounded like it was originating from the top rubber seal on the door on mine too, which is why the defunct Ballamys faffed around with the door for a while (before they went bust).

Sorry to trawl this one up from the sea bed......... But i thought i'd let people know it looks like i've had the problem sorted.......

I got further details from Maff about how he got his noise from the door sorted and took the info down to the dealers. They had booked the car in to replace the door seal but checked and adjusted the window regulator after seeing the info i had from here. I then took the car out for a test but the noise was still there!!!

The service manager himself was there when i went back in so he came and had a look and i showed him that the drivers window was very loose in it mounts compared to the passenger side window. (You could physically move the window up & down about 1/4 - 1/2 inch). He asked if he could have a drive in the car with me in the passenger side so as to confirm when the noise occurred. We went out for a test drive and he heard the noise a few times so booked the car back in to have the whole window regulator mechanism replaced rather than adjusting further, And i took the car in again yesterday. Picked the car up yesterday afternoon and all now seems good....... Touch Wood. I drove in my normal style over roads i knew the noise occured and all seemed well.

The service manager was impressed with the info i brought in from Maff and admitted they would have took a hell of a lot longer to find the fault without it!!!

Cheers

Dave.
