Radar/laser detectors

Featured Replies

has anyone any experiences, good or bad, of radar or laser detectors...I've been doing some reading of other forums and the snooper S5 or bel 55 seem to be the preferred choices

but do they work!?! :?:

I think I'm going to need some electronic assistance to stop me building up the points on my licence, judging by how fast I've been driving the RS after just one week!... :D

I've got the Geodesy with the full all singing all dancing radar upgrade. Only thing is I think I still have to experimaent with the settings as I feel I'm getting a lot of false alarms. But overall I've no complaints easy to install the radar dectector is located behind the large air in take under the number plate and wired through the bonnet release cable route to the inside of the car and into the unit on the dash. Certainly picks up all the cameras as it did before but not really had a 100% sure sighting of a hand held device yet.

Try www.Autoexpress.co.uk They have a review of radar detectors & the GPS camera locating devices, comparing the two..

thanks for the info, looks like I've got some new bedtime reading...

alas though I fear it may be too late, I'm anxiously hoping that I don't get an envelope popping through my door inviting me to send money to the D.O.T - foolishly went through the new variable speed cameras on the M6 at too fast rate of knots...c'est la vie

interestingly though I have read that the radar detectors do not pick up these cameras as they are video based and radar/laser based, I guess you would need a GPS based system

I use a Bell Target Euro 550 = its good and works well. The only problem is that these wont pick up Digital Radar traps you need GPS that inc that feature!

Can anyone advise on best GPS systems do I buy the Skoda offical one or use say Tom Tom ???

I wouldn't advise the Snooper S3 - was ok at first but after 6 moths or so is a little temperamental.

I had a close look at Makefish's Talex at the weekend, it look's a really nice bit of kit. Good value for money at £135 delivered and only £30 per year for updates.

Talex is superb, updates twice weekly and a STEAL if you look hard enough.

I use the origin B2, and am well impressed with it :)

Thoroughly recomend Talex. Check out the following for a bit more info.

Good luck in whatever you decide to get.

Edit: Just realised that this thread has been resurected from 2002. Someone's been doing some digging around!.

I have used a Speed Cheetah and a Tom Tom Combined, so I get resonably good detection and a gps warning at the same time.

It's safe to say that both devices have saved my speeding kiester several times over the last 2 1/2 years (And I have driven about 100,000 miles all over the country) and I would recommend either to anyone.

I used to have a snooper, but the biggest problem was all the other things that it used to pick up, so in effect made it un trust worthy.

I wouldnt get another one.

I use a TR30 from Technology Drive solutions, does the job very well for me, completely customisable and has only once missed a camera when I forgot to update it for 2 months...

And when they bring out upgrades it is all downloaded straight to the machine, and the last plus point is that it gets satellite lock the second you turn the car on as it has a small power feed all the time

I have a Bell550 which i would thoroughly recommend:thumbup: ...like most accessories best to research and see which you like the best and which offers all the things you want.:) ...ooo well i think of it & i know it may be common sense but make sure you take it out of the window when you park the car...its the new 'must steal' for the countries thieving scum!

have a look @ this link

I've a TT PDA and a Road Angel 2 -I wouldn't buy another detector only, instead go for a TT based GPS system and download the camera database every monthe (free) from www.pocketgpsworld.com

Job done
