Pair of ECUs - Legal aspects?

Featured Replies

Hullo

I was hit by a thought last night and I think I need a skoda techie to try and confirm this fear for me.

Basically I have a car, and a second ECU which I want to work in it... BUT, what the hell is gonna come up on the dash when the "other" ECU gets plugged in? Is it gonna be the mileage / trip of the old car, or the mileage / trip of the new car.

I had this sudden vision of my Jabba'd ECU coming into life in the new car and the odometer reading 49K instead of 36K....

(or am I being a bit 'fick and all this odometer info is NOT stored on the ECU itself?) :D:rolleyes:

Jason, when you had your Jabba done, did your milage revert to 0?

Nope - but then it was just a chip on the same ECU, not a new ECU in itself... That's what's got me confused.

and NO comments about how easy that is... :D

 K - put my mind at rest. :D

I'm sure I've seen a thread somewhere which said that the mileage was held in the instrument cluster, not the ECU, and that reprogramming it was intentionally made difficult to discourage "clocking".

Colin! :P - I can't be ar5ed to find any other suitable smilies. :D

Being a Skoda dealer, the mileage is held in the dials. All you need in order to get your chipped ECU to work, as long as it is programmed the same and from the same spec car is the 4 digit code from the dials, or your local dealer to get the code off the car. The new ECU then needs programmong with this 4 digit code ( for the immobiliser that is in the dials). Then your car should start and run

Alex - I've been told by the person reprogramming the immobiliser that its the 5 digit code off my car I need (the one that starts with 0) - I've found the new car's one and "suspect" I've found the old one too (from the key number)

 (is the four digit code the 4 numbers that come after the "0"?)

That's cause your mind is finally at rest!

Sorry, Q's put me back in my box now.

Jason, when your new car does the 'flick back' with 'pike' it wont matter if it reads 149k :D

It felt more like a triple lutz followed by a barrel roll...

anyway back on topic... :buttkick:

jason the code is four digit long but when programming with 1552 you have to insert a '0' before so in turn goes to a five digit. the key number has nothing to do with immob number. the code should be on the tag. dont get the key number mixed up with immob number. the key number is to the left on the tag and also has the locking wheel nut number above it. the immob number should be to the right of the tag.
