A big hello (and a little help)

Featured Replies

Hi there y'all,

thought it was about time to post my first thread here as i have been lurking for a few weeks now.

Picked up a 2001 model Octy vRS this afternoon after about 2/3 weeks of faffing around with the loan sharks, and all i can say is :D

Now then, this isn't the first turbo car i've owned having previously owned an MR2 turbo import with an HKS B.O.V already fitted when purchased, and have one quick question to ask.Upon changing gear or just lifting off the accelorator i have noticed a 'chirruping' sound where as in the MR2 i was getting the usual 'pssssht' sound ,and was just wondering if this was the norm on these cars.

Thanks.

Mark.

Yeah normal so don't worry. The dump valve or Diverter valve as it's more affectionately known on the 1.8T motor doesn't actually 'dump' excess boost to atmosphere but is of re-circulating design so and dumps back into the intake system.

Welcome to Briskoda and enjoy....

Hi Mark and welcome to Briskoda, enjoy.

If your RS is stock ie the DV or the air intake has not been changed in any way then I would say the noise you've mentioned is NOT normal. Could be the OE DV has developed a fault, get it checked out m8.

I'm with Des on this one.

Oh and welcome to the site :wavey:

"Chirping".....wastegate flutter??

Thanks for the welcome and your input, guys.Have to go to the dealers next week anyway,as they have a spare key on order for me so will ask them to check it out.

mine was going chirrupp as well (the dealer said it was ok bearing in mind he didn't check it ) changed it for a Bailey DV and the car seems to have become more responsive

I'd been thinking about changing for a Bailey DV even before i picked up the car (thanks to a little e-mail correspondance with Monkey Boy) did this stop the chirrup though?(when i say chirrup it's more like a 'ch-ch-ch' as opposed to a 'shhh', if you see what i mean)

yup chirrup gone you get a slightly audible ptshhhh noise. But you have to remember this is due to it being a diverter valve, rather than an atmospheric dump valve.

Cheers monkeychild,will give a Bailey a try.

Thanks all.

Check for budgies under the carpet, the chirping you are hearing might be it saying thankyou as you lift the pedal off of its wings. If you get a shrieking squeeling sound when you brake hard then its head is under the brake pedal.

Thats my answer Trill I can think of a better one

(Yep youve guessed it, Sunday night & bored)
