Frayed seats

Featured Replies

The seats in my car have been perfect since I bought it, but suddenly as I was cleaning the interior today, I noticed that both the passenger and driver side front seats are fraying where the mesh cloth meets the leather at the front of the seat. Needless to say I am not amused. One expects seats to stand up to light daily usage particularly when they are fastidiously cared for and have been given the Supagard treatment.

Are frayed seats a warranty job? If not, has anyone considered replacing the mesh cloth with similar coloured leather, and if so, did you get any quotes for the work?

Rob , yes definately a warranty claim ,IIRC a few others have had the same problem , but all sorted under warranty .

mine have slightly started too. anyone else who has had this?

Warranty job, you're not the first, though luckily mine are ok so far.

Take back to the dealer ;)

common complaint but haven't heard of this for a while.

warranty, warranty, warranty!

After 1200 miles mine done the same, taking all interior in 2morrow to replace all the white mesh in seats and door cards to black alcatara and going to fit black carpet.

Hwo much is that costing if you don't mind me asking

My driver's seat is just starting to fray too but I've got 26,000 miles on the clock, still a warranty job, or fair wear and tear ? Would be interested in changing carpets to black, would leave the door cards and mesh. How much, and where ?

I would have thought this is a real grey area as you expect car seats to last a bloody long time but this thing of fair wear and tear is a load of B0ll0x if you ask me. My seats have got tiny plucks in them which isn't too bad

If your gearbox went at 26000 miles would you accept that as fair wear & tear?

Of course you wouldn't.

If the seat is going / gone, and the car is in warranty, take it in :)

Dave, is the carpet a Skoda part or are you having it made?

If it's a Skoda part, do you have the part number, or the model it comes from. (Elegance, Ambiente etc)

Would be handy to know for those of us considering a carpet swap ;)

hope you can post pics when its done dave c, sounds good

collect carpet 2morrow will get part no and price to post i do know that if you try to order this item its not on the shelf as i was told between 6/8 weeks.

I was quoted about

I had a dark carpet put in mine this weekend, local dealer charged me

My seat covers were replaced under warranty a couple of months ago with the same fraying at the front (car is 35K miles and warranty expires in June this year). It is a common problem and IMHO will recur again which is why I left it a while to ensure that I could get maximum usage of the new seats once the car is out of warranty. I guess I will try the same thing as Dave C if I still have the car and it happens again when out of warranty.

It should be changed by Skoda with no real complaints

Black carpet (ie floor cover black) for the RHD vRS is listed on ETKA at

hope you can post pics when its done dave c, sounds good

Ditto that.

My drivers seat mesh fabric has frayed as well, but I thought that this was down to me scratching myself between the legs when driving..........
