Huge Repair Bills? Any Rights? HELP!

Featured Replies

Hi

10 weeks ago I bought a 2001 Fabia Elegance.. lovely..

Weekend just gone PAS light comes on one morning from cold start and PAS system completely dead... outta nowhere.. no signs of problem before failure.

Skoda looked at it, dead pump apparently.. (yet it's an electrical fault as the pump is reporting an unsuitable signal????).. but still they wanna change the pump at the cost of

Surely these would be covered under warranty. Did you buy the car from a Skoda dealer or another garage.

The steering angle sensor is a common failure point for the PAS system but that tends to start with an intermittent fault.

Brake light switch retails for about £6 to £7 and takes a maximum of half hour to fit

Get a second opinion , I am worried for you

Sarah

I had a huge problem with Power Steering and it not working - I actually replaced the pump with a second hand one and even that didnt fix the problem -

I ve learnt to live with no power steering, which isnt too healthy for the car but saves spending 500 pounds fixing a car .

Good luck and keep us informed

Well, after talking with the ex-skoda dealer the car came from I've been advised to ask for the power steering pump senor to be chnaged first.

I did this, against the initial will of the garage it's at now. they'll call me when it's done to let me know if it was, or wasn't the senor. They claim the read out said it wasn't the sensor.. yet it's reading "an unusable signal" could be faulty, could be correct.. it can go either way in my opinion! I'll let you guys know.

As for brake light sensor. I've not instructed them on that yet, as I firmly believe my brake lights are fine! so prob will ask them to leave it.

Rob.

Good luck to you and hope you have better luck than im having.... Car still in garage ... week and a half now.... while disagreements continue over the warranty... and theve all gone to Pargue to add insult to injury..something to do with a new Swift, sorry Fabia

The power steering sensor went in to a longer warranty period

Brale light switch was superceeded

Boo Hoo hoo!

It's the pump! :-( They changed the sensor and still no power steering!

OK, soooooo, that's 130 for the sensor all in, and now 730 for the pump all in.

£860... at least it's under a quarter of the cars worth (just).. if had been more would have needed serious thinking,.. not that it's a small amount.. but luckily just got a 0% Interest on purchases credit card.. so 12 months to pay off.. not so bad.

I just hope they haven't messed it up and it's the battery!

Rob...

My car was 2 months out or warranty when the pump went. Took it to my local garage, they was going to charge me

I had a problem like this with my Astra derv a few years ago, it was 6 months out of warranty and bought from a small garage, nothing to do with the dealers. The gearbox went bang within 2 months of me having the car, the garage said tough, the dealers didn

I've replaced two pumps this week oddly enough, one Fabia and one Polo.

Both have been dead, no communications with diagnostics despite having the main live, ignition live and earth at the control unit.

They arent that complicated, you only have a main 60amp power feed, an earth, and ignition live to activate the control unit, can data bus wires (hi and Lo) and three wires to the sensor.

I just found a copy of the letter mate, just reformat in word and send it recorder delivery
