I use a Manfrotto 334B fitted with a quick release head.............

Got SWMBO to hold the gear - she was scared s**** in case she dropped it

Here is a closeup of the quick release head - fit a plate to each of the

lenses/cameras, and they can be swapped over in seconds.......

A view of the quick releaseplate which screws onto the base of the lens/camera....

Here is a closup of the quick release clamp on the monopod. It has a safety

mechanism to stop the camera/lens from coming of when you don't want it to.

The monopod has a quick release leg, operated by squeezing this grip. The

height can then be changed instantly without resorting to unscrewing clamps.

I hope this helps..........

Nice bit of kit, shame the heads are all different sizes, would love to be able to interchange between the monopod and tripod without changing heads :(

I am a big Benbo fan. I brought a second hand Benbo monopod a long while back, seeing this thread reminded me of it. I have just found it but there is no head on it. I think that Benbo stuff is built like tanks which is why i brought the tripod version. Very very heavy but so sturdy. I mount my telescope on the tripod and use it when out birding, you need something like that when the wind is blowing a gale.:D

I have both monopod and tripod with the same quick release head. The monopod came from 7dayshop. Cost me about £13 if I remember. The tripod came from argos but was the same make. I keep one plate in my camera bag then doesn't matter if I take mono or tripod out. I'll try and dig out more info if you need it.

I bought a cheap quick release monopod and Tripod from Jessops (own brand) the monopod is fine as it doesn’t slip, is light and does what it says on the tin. The Tripod however, was a mistake. Mainly because the head and its mechanism are awful. Cheap plastics mean it can’t be panned and tilted with any fine control and the crane mechanism is simply horrible to use. Also even though they are the same make (allegedly) the Q/R plates aren’t interchangeable.

My advice (for what it’s worth) is Monopods aren’t quite as much of an issue as tripods, always buy the best tripod you can afford. I regret buying a cheap one, but the monopod is fine

Go for a Manfrotto, with a quick release head. I got one which is both a monopod and a tripod in one, the bottom unscrews and out pop three little feet. Its great for places like Brands Hatch. Not sure of the excact model No, but it costs £89 and you can buy one from Warehouseexpress.com. It will support upto 3kgs, which is more than enough for a 400D and a telephoto.

Thanks for the updates. Let you know what I decide, just about to buy a battery grip for it to make full use of my new 2gb Sandisk ExtremeIII.
