Mg Zt-t?

Featured Replies

I'm looking for a replacement for my Octy estate. I have just over a week before the courtesy car goes back!

Top of the list at the moment is an 2003 Passat Estate TDI130 Sport 110k miles -

they're cheap, because they're not particulary good cars :)

The Rover 75 or MG variant is actually one of the best underrated cars you can get for your cash.

This car was developed by BMW when they owned Rover and was voted What Car of the year if I remember that far back.

you should get one for buttons , but don't hit anything with it because the insurers will right it off at the drop of a hat due to them lack of parts

this is true... they are suprisingly good cars, even clarkson liks the V8!!

I've seen police forces with them too... take a test drive, you may be suprised.... parts really arn't a problem, there are loads of suppliers...

I thought Rover's diesel engines, were made by Honda

they are, I think

just I've not found the cars as a whole, particulary good.

very wallowy handling

the 75 is suposed to wallow, i think the ZT is actually a decent looking car and supposed to be the best of the bunch. i'd go for a ZT260 though.

Because there now Chinese they should be called......."Wover"..:)

they are bmw diesel engines - as found in 3 series.

petrols are ok avoid the non turbo 1.8 as it is too slow.

car handles very well. though small wheels and low spec can be floaty - as with other mfrs.

260 is best. but the cdti cars are surprisingly good. All ZT are much better than 75 models.

very wallowy handling

And you picked the Fabia because................? ;)

Chris

it does what I want it to do :)

What was that then :P

I thought I was going to get slated!

I've seen a few in 'the Trader', the petrol 190+'s are very cheap indeed, you pay quite a lot more for the BMW diesel.

I can't make my mind up, if they look a bit 'Max Power' with the MG front end etc.

I will have to find one to have a go in.

I think they look pretty good - the MGs even more so with the body matched grille, and I am NOT a Max Power type! As I recall the 75 won in one of the car magazine's owner satisfaction thingies on the ride quality.

I'd think that there should be plenty of parts - there are plenty of them, and hence plenty of money to be made making parts.

my brother had a demo from work, brand new car 20 miles on the clock, the zt badge fell off the boot and the glued on spoiler wasnt glued on very well, glue was visible as well, lost his cash card behind the ashtray and broke that as well, the car was ok but the little touches just werent there, trim was cheap and no care had gone in to the manurfacturing process what so ever.

IIRC I didn't have too many problems with the handling on the boggo std one I borrowed.

I think they are OK cars and the 260 is lovely. Pick up a minter for about 13k.

There are so many people who know so little about car manufacture  MG Rover did little more than design and assemble the car. The vast majority of the panales were made by companies such as UYT, Stadco Pressings, Coventry Press Work etc. They will more that likely be the owners of the tooling and will happily keep banging out the parts for the spares market.

Once they're done with them they'll sell the tooling to another company who will continue banging out the panels.

I was at a company last week who have press tools from the original mini, Rover 200, Vauxhall Vectra MK1. They run batches of panels and sell them through the car parts distributors.

One of my workmates has one. Do you like suspension that feels like they forgot to take the transport spacers out before selling the car?

having driven a ZT-T 1.8 turbo.. i would have to advise you do not buy one!

The interior is awful, none of the pieces fit together very well and its all really flimsy cheapo plastic.

It handles like boat even on the 18" rims. The pull to one side under acceleration is so bad its almost dangerous!!

The clutch is so heavy your left leg will be twice the size of your right after 6 months, and its slooooow!

but it does look very menacing when its behind you!!!! (where it belongs)

Oh yeah.. and the brakes are cr4p

Ive just bought one and am well pleased with it. Was a little worried because they had gone bang etc but after consulting a couple of people on here as to "how good are they" im now the owner of a ZT-T se V8.

As you say its a replacement for your Octy I'd advise against. Its like stepping back which is horrendous. The interiors are cheap and dated, the ride is harder than nails and the performance is average really.

Thats without starting on the fact the parts are getting rare and depreciation is awful.

I can see you seriuosly regretting a purchase like this...

MG ZT-T's petrol (190) and diesel (?)

Does anybody know anything about Rover/MG's?

fella i had a zt-t 190+ for a long weekend (3 day) test drive last summer before going with the octy.

the car was 18 months old with 2k on the clock, dlr was going to offer it to me for £9995.

build quality was ok, handling was ok, space was just ok, the boot was shallow though, looks, i thought, were grand.

performance: i've ran several big engine saloons/hatchbacks in the past and i found the zt-t to be ok, but i expected better performance given the 190bhp figure. decent on the m-way/dual c-way, which is where i spend most of my journeys.

in short i did'nt buy for three reasons:

1. wanted something cheaper to run, mainly in the fuel dept.

2. was worried about parts in a few years time, always keep my cars for a while.

3. my dad had several rovers/mgs in the past as company cars, no offence to any ex-workers, but they were all rubbish. his last rover, an 827, circa early 90's had a engine sub-frame rust through after just a year, oh and the boot could not be used as the spare wheel well turned into a swimming pool when it rained and soaked the boot carpet.

Well I think I have made my mind up.

The MG is a big :thumbdwn:

Looks like I'm going for a VW Passat Estate, 3 or 4 yr old Sport TDI130.

Can't keep away from the VAG cars, my previous car before the Octy was a petrol Passat Est.

Anything I should know?
