VAG-COM equivalent for Honda?

Featured Replies

Is there a VAG-COM equivalent for Honda? I can't seem to find out any info on it. No decent forum like we have here. :)

Don't know about a VAG-COM equivalent I guess there must be something. As for a decent Honda forum try Honda Revolutions - The UK Honda Drivers Club I am/was a member when I ran Hondas.

Thanks for that Hedge, I will have a look.

AFAIK Honda use ISO protocol so any OBD reader should be able to gain fault codes but I've not heard of anything to take things further than that.

This may be a stupid question, but can VAG Com read OBD codes on non VAG cars?

Generic OBD-II functionality is limited to cars using ISO 9141-2 ("CARB"), ISO 14230 ("KWP-2000") and ISO-15765 ("CAN") protocols. Our interfaces do not support the SAE J1850-VPW and J1850-PWM protocols used by most US-market GM and Ford products, so this cannot work on those cars. Most early (1996-2000) OBD-II compatible Chrysler cars used ISO-9141-2. Many newer Chrysler cars use SAE-J1850 and are incompatible. Most European and Asian cars use ISO and should be compatible. In US models, Generic OBD-II compatiblilty was required as of model year 1996. In Canada, 1998. In the European Market, 2001 (gasoline-powered) and 2004 (diesel-powered).

Yes, a current version should work for that on most Hondas..;-)

Can it only read the codes or is it possible to change any settings?

As a general rule, OBD-II / EOBD can only perform somewhat limited diagnostics on emissions-related systems. You can read and clear fault codes from the engine (and auto trans if it has one), you can get good amount live data, but you can't get into systems that don't have anything to do with emissions such as ABS, Airbags, and so on.

Thanks for the info Uwe.

We might end up with one VAG car and one Honda. I would want to get VAG-COM on the laptop but do you know if there is an equivalent for the Honda?

I do no know of an equivalent for Honda.

That doesn't mean it doesn't exist, but I have no interest in Japanese cars, so I don't really keep track of that scene.

Only one I know is "Honda Diagnostic System (HDS)" comes in three versions:

  • Honda Diagnostic System Tablet Tester (HDS Tablet Tester)
  • Teradyne Diagnostic System Pocket Tester Kit (Pocket Tester)
  • Honda Diagnostic System Personal Computer (PC) Software

Not cheap (at least

Thanks for that.

Is a bit expensive as you say.
