New fabia vrs worries?

Featured Replies

Just dropped the fabia off for its 20k service and was talking to the guy about the new fabia as mine will be almost 3 years old when the new fabia VRS shows up next year (if it actually does).

I got a bit worried when the guy behind the desk said it is likely to be a petrol model! I can't see them making the vrs a petrol, the vrs being a diesel is one of the biggest factors that makes people buy it. Cheap to run, insure, tax etc. Who here wouldn't buy the new VRS if it came out in petrol only? Hopefully this would never happen though.

Seeing as the bloke actually worked for skoda you can't help but worry as they would surely have heard this from somewhere?

they do the OCtavia vRS in Petrol and Diesel, so why not do the same in the new Fabia ?

thought they were gonna do a 150bhp diesel? dont know for sure though. Although, I'm sure someone once said they were gonna do both? Although I could be dreaming :)

I believe there was gonna be a 150bhp petrol (1.4 TSI) and a 140bhp diesel (2.0 PD).....

I heard this exactly....

I recon it will be the 1.9 150 TDi, I have a feeling we won't see a 2.0 in one. If they put the 140 brake in, it won't be that much faster than the one now, as the new one is bound to weigh more therefor offsetting the increase in power.

Besides, the other manufacturers are now putting in higher hp engines, take the Corsa for example, its got a 190hp engine.

We may see a special one with the 170 in but that's just for the Octy at the moment.

Skoda haven't officially said there will be a new vRS, but I would think so, due to the sales of the old one and they will shoot themselves in the foot if they dont.

There will not be a TDi due to EU Emissions. The TDi Fabia RS is gone. A 1.8 petrol was tested but the 1.4 TSi will be the one. I guess those Ltd Edition Fabia RS won't be long on the shelf now...

I would think there would be a TDi as Diesel pollutes less CO2 than Petrol and coupled with the fact that there are now particulate filters and such like, they would be mad not too. Diesel also has less sulpher nowadays.

Most Diesels are beyond the EU IV emisions regulations hence the road tax is less for the when you compare the equivalent engine size, for example, the octy petrol vRS pollutes somewhere in the region of 230g/km which is band G where as the 170 Diesel is in band D and is about 165g/km.

There will probably be a petrol version but I would think they will introduce the Diesel first to satisfy us oil burning nutters in the country.

This probably will be the 1.4 TSi at 170 HP, so we wil probably see the 140 TDi although I said earlier it will probably be the 150hp 1.9 used as there is usually a 30hp difference as Diesel is actually faster than petrol for the same power output but the manufacturers will not have this and this is why the petrol is always more hp. :)

The PD is dying due to emission regs. It is getting harder and harder to get it though the tight euro regs hence the particulate filters. Depending on how the new Fabia turns out there might not be the room to fit a self regenerative DPF. And we all know the ball ache with the non self regen type.

The PD will evolve I would think into a more common rail type diesel sooner or later.

The 1.9's are being dropped such as the ASZ and BLT engines which are now suffering due to the EGR settings needed to make them EU4 compliant. So that leaves the 2.0 as th only current option, but what will they do DPF wise?

I think they might wimp out on the TSi and use the 140 bhp version as well.

Yep, I read a while back that VW are moving to commmon rail, although the article stated this was due to the cost gap between PD and common rail making VW's less competitive.

I read somewhere that the costs of developing the PD versus common rail are too high (for VAG), due to CR technology being developed by many manufacturers and PD by VAG only. Also CR are apparently more refined, quiet and have a more linear power band. All these will be nice as the PD is just too noisy, and the all or nothing power delivery make it seem archaic compared with other diesel offerings.

Wouldn't have bought the Fabia vRS if it wasn't a diesel.

VAG are going over to common rail. I think it's towards the end of this year.

Trouble with the PD is you can only get 1 maybe 2 pilot injections before the main one and none after, where the CR will do say 5 before then the main and 2 after to keep the noise down.

It's a noise thing as well as the emissions, spoke to a dealer and they have said people are not liking the PD much now due to the noise regardless of the emissions, so I suppose it's down to the customer satisfaction they produce a CR engine as well as the environment.

Like HotVRs said, 'CR are apparently more refined, quiet and have a more linear power band' which is true, I mean you get quite a kick from the Fabia vRS from standstill.

The 2.0 (140) doesn't need a DPF to get through EU4 though, so may be a candidate for new Fab RS???

The 1.9 doesn't either in its 105bhp guise - don't know about higher power versions.

140 Tdi guaranteed. They won't do a 170 because it'll be quicker than the Octy.

There'll probably be a tsi petrol running similat power.

I'm not ruling out the idea of a 170 in the vRS, they may not worry about Fabia being faster, or they may give the option of the 170 at a premium price as not everyone would have one.

There was an article on a VAG site last year around, May ( I wish I could find it ) stating, that the last PD engines were 08, & the MY09's were going to be common rail, due to as already stated development restrictions on PD engines.

It was also rumoured in the article that the VAG 1.6 common rail, would output 130BHP - How true that is, we will have to wait and see.
