New Model Fabia RS

Featured Replies

I would be pretty confident in saying there will be a TDi, cos if not, I will change brands and I think many people would too.

As long as the engine is EU IV complient, they are ok.

Besides, there is a Derv in the Roomster engine bay and the new fabia has Diesel engines in it.

It would be a sad day for Skoda if there was no Diesel as I wont be buying a petrol one, thats for sure.

Why would they make a Diesel Octy vRS and not a Diesel Fabia, sounds crazy to me.

You know using that bold font doesn't make your posts any easier to read....?

But I have driven the new Fabia.

You call that driving?

I call that crash avoidance.

I pretty sure Ants would agree that the new car is an improvement over the current model in every single area.

Fabia Cooper S anybody?

The 2.0 is 16v, and the 1.9 8v, correct?

So I guess it could be bigger, but I'm sure it would still fit.

The head would be bigger on a 16v engine, and the timing belt/ chain layout would potentially make one side of the lump a little wider but with it being a 2.0 instead of a 1.9 I doubt it would be much bigger. You never know, it may even be a bored/ stroked 1.9 in which case the external dimensions could remain the same.

The 170 would be the same size as the 140 but I imagine the particulate filters would take up some extra room if fitted.

Weight is the main thing. Does the new 2.0 TDi engine weigh much more than the 1.9? In a small-ish car this could really upset the balance having all the weight at the front. The existing vRS pushes this as it is, especially in the understeer department.

I know the PD engines used practically the same block etc as the old 90/ 110 TDi's, just with a different head. Do we know how the 2.0 differs from this?

The 1.4 TSi 140 does make sense though. Would be gutsy enough to make it another warm hatch, but to keep their existing customer base they would need to have a weasel.

I sure Skoda realise that due to the roaring success of the Fabia vRS and the fact more and more new cars sold are diesels due to fuel costs and emissions based taxes.

Not only that but they are nicer to drive in real world terms.

in the autoexpress mag today it had a write up of the vrs ltd edition. At the end of the article it said next vrs will not appear here until 2008.It also said it is expected to be equipped with a powerful 2.0 ltr tdi engine.

This new Fabia RS could be a general election issue by the sound of things. This may be old hat to the Skoda Buff but the new Fabia will have an optional white roof option. It'll cost a couple of hundred quid. I'm thinking of going for a Candy White with Zenons and the optional extra white roof? What do you think?

I still think there is going to be a diesel version of the new Fabia vRS.

I strongly suspect talk of there not being one (or reluctance to say what there will be one) is just a marketing ploy by either yourself or Skoda in order to shift the 1000 Ltd Editions that are currently arriving.

Why would you pick a white car and then pay extra for a white roof? What colour do you think it would be if you didn't ask for the optional white roof???

maybe candy white isn't the same as "white roof" white.

A friend has a pepper white Mini with a white roof, and they are different colours.

I think the 170 is a deffinate possibility, after all, the petrol Octy vRS is 200hp and the Fabia it's going to be written down on paper as being slower than it actually is, we know this is the case from the current Fabia vRs, even though it will be as fast due to the lesser weight and what with the other manufacturers putting ever bigger engines in their cars Skoda won't want to be left out.

Decided to keep my current 54 plate and wait til next year now.

in autoexpress this week, they say the next gen vRS is likley to have a 2.0 diesel engine....

Rumour has that it WILL be a 140 2.0 Diesel engine as in the Octavia

Top Gear Magazine says:

"Skoda is planning two vRS versions in time, a 150bhp petrol and a hotter diesel"

could it be the pd160 engine from the ibza cupra ?

I doubt it, I dont think that engine will make it to the next gen of cars.

Nah I was joking. The white roof will be the same colour as the body therefore a waste of money.

Concur with the article....read it on the weekend.

struggling to make sense of what your trying to say there?

if your trying to say that the fabia is down on paper as being slower than the octavia but in reality its faster due to lesser weight etc then you are quite mistaken. the fabia vRS is only a tiny bit lighter than an octavia vRS (about 60Kg) and isn't as fast even if it feels it.

the octavia is skoda's flagship hot model so i doubt they will make the fabia faster than it.

Top Gear Magazine says:

I think the 150bhp petrol (probably 150 application of the 1.4 TSI engine) is very likely, I would be surprised if they installed the 170 TSI from the Golf GT (market segmentation strategy and all that). As for a diesel greater than 150 bhp, I doubt it.

I would be happy with the 140bhp 16v diesel and in the real world it should perform just as well as the 150bhp petrol and be reasonable to insure/run etc.

What I meant was that if they put the 170 in the next Fabia vRS, the Octavia will still be the flagship model because of the 200hp engine and the marginally faster speed, even though the fabia would nearly be as fast and I meant that the current vRs is actually faster than the book says, i.e 9.5 secs.

9.6 is the 0-62mph (i.e. 0-100km/h) not the 0-60 mph and as such requires further gear changes.

I believe that they time all VAG cars in Spain and due to the higher temps they perform slower there than here (especially on hot days)

Wonder if they'll do a czech flag roof:rofl:

Heheh , that would be quite neat! I bet one could be photoshopped once theres a plan view of the new Fabia!

Wow. We have the same username pretty much. Your surname isn't Warren by any chance is it?

It's quite possible! In Autoexpress this week they say Skoda are looking into the option of having your own photo or design on the roof of your new Fabia.
