Well, at last it's done. The "final" remap...

Featured Replies

As some of you know, I've been the very pleased owner of a rather "modified" Fabia and since changing the clutch and adding Forge's very elegant FMIC, I had always pondered about getting a "final remap" done to make sure everything's working together in optimum fasion.

I'll have no shame whatsoever pointing at Bas :fap: who's been constantly pestering me like a adult school boy that I should get it sorted. Finally, today, I did.

And I have to say today has been most interesting and educational.

Despite the ghastly weather / winds / storms / hail, I turned up at Forge shortly before 10:30. Richard welcomed me and showed me around the installation where they make the various FMICs for all sorts of cars, dump valves, various bits of fancy aluminium, etc. Needless to say, it was interesting seeing everything from the assembly line, it certainly puts things into perspective :)

Anyway, back onto the mapping. After an initial dump of the code, we went out for a little drive, logging the existing map.

Once back, Richard examined the figures and decided to start from a base map rather than the one already present, explaining the whys and wherefores. It was very interesting, especially as he showed how certain maps had implications on others, and how variables stored here had an impact there, etc.

I'll admit I couldn't understand it all, but one thing was clear to me: there is more to it than I had originally anticipated. He tweaked certain areas and after some adjustments, ensuring everything was inline we uploaded the new map. It was also interesting to see how certain remaps have to to be overwritten in certain ways. I hadn't realised how many "safety checks" are in place for it all which are rather reassuring, and after some fine tuning, the map was uploaded

We then went out for a drive, and the difference compared to the previous remap I had on there was subtle but nevertheless, a very pleasant improvement. :) The power delivery is smoother, and whilst it may have lost its initial "in your face" approach the previous one gave, I much prefer it. It's smoother, more refined. Overall, there's more thurst and it just feels more effortless than it ever has before, reaching silly speeds whilst being totally smooth and "non-plussed". It's kind of difficult to describe  , but I'm very very happy with the result  although it could be hazardous to the health of my licence  :D

Despite the 3 hour drive home which was an absolute nightmare, I did find the odd ocassion when not stuck in traffic or roadworks to start appreciating the result. I've been debating about taking things further (bigger injectors, etc), but I'm rather happy where I am right now :D

Although Forge haven't massively publicised the remap tuning side of things, it's certainly not because they don't like doing it. On the contrary.

I even heard a rumour that something may appear soon on Briskoda ;) ;)

A big thanks to Peter and Richard for their hospitality, cups of tea, coffee and of course, above all, a marvellous professional service.

Great news Xav, I am impressed with what I have heard about Forge/Richard.

If you think the original map is getting on for three years old now its only to be expected things have moved on from then.

Glad your happy.

Richard is a top bloke who knows TDI mapping inside out...

I bet you're well pleased :)

Would be good to see a Forge Fabia vs Jabba Fabia shootout at santa pod, elvington or somewhere:thumbup:

Nice to hear of another tuner on the block. Competition is always healthy.

Well, as I'm having net troubles surfing here, I may go out for a quick blast somewhere :D

:iagree:

come on guys you make me blush :o

Someone needs a RR day. ;) Looks likely the first opportunity for you will be the TSR one I organise - end of April time. :)

seriously, we are always here to help.

petrols now tuned too as long as you dont use Tesco fuel

Good to meet you Xav. Shame we had the issues with the flashing or you would have been away a lot earlier. Its always unknown territory when flashing over existing software upgrades on any ecu. Personally I think its the sony laptops that are to blame ;)

LOL. Well consider the nice discount I was about to offer you now no longer available :P

Glad I filled up with fuel before coming down. I was hearing about it on the way back

J, I'll keep the rolling road in mind. But if it's TSR, are they still open? And is it still the mechanical RR where you need everyone on the car to stop it jumping off?!? I won't have a FMIC to fit this time round so won't be able to distract myself with something else to do :)

They're re-opening under new management and installing a 1000hp MAHA 4wd rolling road. Should be the Daddy!

Glad to hear that my mate Xav is well happy. :nana:

Rich has an unusual approach of explaining what he's doing while he's doing it - and you really get an insight on how complex and elegant a truly customised map is.......

Now I'll have to nag Xav about getting a RR to show off his results.

The really funny thing is that I've been a passenger in his car before the map and it was bloody-scary-quick. :Yikes:

Xav told me that the car felt "held-back" with his old map.

NOT going to take another ride with him piloting anytime soon, that's for sure......:pillepall

we love happy Skoda owners

I don't see anything on the site for the 2.0i. What is on offer?

NA engine don't typically give anything more than 10%.

Turbo engines will always give the biggest bang per buck with remapping.

Of course NA engines can be modded but you're looking at a lot of money as it's very labour intensive...porting/polishing etc.

Great news Xav.

So whens the next angelsey/brunter day :D

is it a 2.0na engine, tdi or fsiT?

is it a 2.0na engine, tdi or fsiT?

It is the standard 2.0i na petrol engine option for the Fabia Elegance.

Its not impossible but as you have probably been told elsewhere its a small gain.

We still have to charge the regular prices too as the costs and time involved for us are the same as a turbo car (in fact its probably more work on the na just to get a noticable gain)
