Contaminated fuel.

Featured Replies

Has anybody suffered with this problem?

It has just been on the news.

I thought that it was in the South of the country but it seems to be all over the UK.

They are saying that it could cost thousands of pounds to repair the oxygen sensors and that there may be a shortage on these parts.

I have just put

Don't think it's just the supermarkets now...

It's a job to know what to do - do you drain your tank only to fill it with possible contaminated fuel ? or do you top good petrol with contaminated ? how many miles you done since you topped up ? If you've done a few miles I would leave it alone till you are low on fuel again, by which time it may be sorted.

I don't like the way Tesco's are denying anything's wrong - i hope someone keeps an unmixed sample of the dud petrol !

Buy a premium fuel such as v-Power or Ultimate.

I have been thinking about that. Should I wait until my tank is really low again before I put that in or can I put it in at any time? I guess that I don

Apparently Greenergy (The supplier in question) supply to Texaco, Shell and Esso as well as supermarkets. It all comes from the same place!

wht is the fuel contaminated with ?

Do what VRstu says fill it with premium -that'll dilute any dud fuel you may have in your tank. Although your last post suggests things are Ok.

However take heart, reading the various posts and bbc news items not all makes of car are affected - Skoda is not among the makes quoted as failing!

So greenergy buy the stuff off esso refinaries (Fawley) and then sell it to the other petrol stations down that way?

I'm just a bit confused who exactly greenergy are and what they do.

Someone said on the TV that the tanker that brought the fuel to our country had carried some chemicals in it, and it was not washed out properly before being filled with the fuel.

That's a LOT of contaminated fuel

Looks like it's a good time to be a manufacturer of oxygen sensors :D

Anyone know if this is just affecting petrol? or is it diesel as well?

I don't like the way Tesco's are denying anything's wrong -

To be fair to Tesco (or to any retailer), they seem as baffled as anyone else. Until Trading Standards have got the results back that they have sent away for tests, no one knows what's happened.

Their website is vague about exactly who what and when. Kinda like a channel 5 documantary, it looks good but ultimately doesn't tell you anything.

Someone on the BBC message board posted this:

Last week our diesel scenic broke down and has been diagnosed with contaminated fuel (there are foreign particles in the fuel). This has domaged our fuel system and we are now looking at a bill of

Is it just normal unleaded that has been contaminated or is it super unleaded as well, i only ask cos i put £35 worth of Tescos super unleaded yesterday from Yeading in West London :worried:

This from BBC too:-

The oxgygen sensor of my Peogueot 406 HDi stopped working after using contaminated fuel from a Tesco petrol station in Bedford. It cost over

This page has a bit of info:

Greenergy's 99 Octane Super Unleaded petrol

Looking at the map of reported incidents of contamination on the BBC News website it's interesting to notice that there are no incidents in Wales.

I wonder if anyone knows anything about how petrol is distributed in the UK - could it be that Wales is supplied from Milford Haven refinery ?

Don't see how it would affect a derv myself.

Also very few in Scotland, and I know Canvey Island doesn't supply fuel in Scotland.

I've just put

Filled up at Shell (I think) in Frilford on Tuesday morning...haven't driven again since arriving home...as above fingers crossed :worried:
