vRS spare wheel and tyre

Featured Replies

I'm picking up my Furby next week and as I'm using it as a driving instructor car am gonna remove the alloys and run it on 4 steel spares. Can someone confirm the PCD, ET (offset), bore and tyre size and make please ?

At the mo' I've narrowed it down to 16", 6 1/2J, ET42, 57mm bore and 5x100PCD, with tyres at 205/45/16, although many use 215/40/16 as they are cheaper and more readily available.

Your help appreciated

Oh, and if anybody had any vRS spare steel wheels they aren't using, I have cash waiting

why not 15's?

'cos the spare already in the boot, and in the girlfriends boot is 16", so I only need to buy 2 more. Will use an alloy for the spare (as will she) but I'm trying to minimise expense. A scrappers in Doncaster says he has some Golf steelies which may fit, but I need to confirm the above specification.

ah right, fair enough!

Golf steels *should* fit

as long as they are from a MK4 they will be fine

Been offered wheels at £20 each plus tyre cost from a scrappers. Any offers before I jump in ?

what happens when you and your girlfriend get a puncture then?

:P

why don't you do what me and the other instructors using a VRS do and keep your pupils away from the kerb that then saves all the hastle of removing the alloys, buying new ones, also the VRS looks stupid on steel wheels and also if you or your girlfriend gets a puncture you can bet you will kerb the alloys i have kept mine and in 20k i have not had anyone hit the kerb but if they do i will buy a spare alloy of flea bay when i come to sell the car job done and it also looks good while i am using it

With the best will in the world, there's barely a single car on the road with undamaged alloys being driven by qualified drivers, and my experience with learners has tought me to avoid the hassle. Once an alloys is damaged, it's damaged for good. Steelies are much more resilient to little knocks, and at £20 a time IDGAF if they do kerb them. The alloys will go on when I am using the car privately for a period of time (holidays etc) and be sat in pristine condition as spares the rest of the time. I ain't buying a Fabia for it to look good, that's an oxymoron (I think). It's a tool. An economical tool with reasonable performance and acceptable driving dynamics which suits both my own private useage and the needs of my clients until such a time as I can justify the expense of a proper driving car for personal use.

So, no steelies on offer then ? Donny scrappers here I come.
