fastest speed achieved?

Featured Replies

The power does limit the top end a lot.

I remember May saying the Veyron could reach 150mph with just 270bhp or something, but it needs that extra 730bhp to reach 250.

I think the fabia is similar. 130bhp to reach around 125mph (real) and even with 200bhp, that extra 70 horses will only really give you another 15 to 20 real mph (in the right situation). Pushing toward 300 would probably free up the entire rev range in 6th, despite the aerodynamics being like a fridge!

Luke - Did your vRS starting making odd whistling noises between 140mph and 160mph? Mine gets really bad at 140, and it's enough to make me back off again....

Why?

I'll put this to you. Myself, and a friend both bought new fabia vRS's on 05 plates. His left me for dead at 130. His showed 145 before it finally reached v max, mine only 130. Both standard.

Mine remapped only shows 145 on the speedo if the wind is behind me, i'll concede that, but I don't doubt any of the claims thus far. 162 is possible, just.

I can assure you. 130 on the clocks, is 118mph on GPS. Might vary 'JUST'.. but 130mph is roughly 118mph on GPS. So I would presume the 145 is hitting the 130 barrier. Which sounds about right.

Not with big wheels on ;) Mine's only 3 mph out at 100 indicated, and that's with 17" wheels and 215/45s

I kind of suspect Dave had the 18s on when doing this test. :D

18/40's...At a guess. Which would be the same Diameter as what you have! Right?

I think 18s need 215/35. And that combination is 0.65% bigger than my 215/40 R17 - so essentially "yes" :) More or less, with 17s or 18s, the indicated to GPS gap narrows significantly.

I was driving a Fabia with a GPS thingy in it it was indicating 125-127mph Can't quite remember what now and the speedo was reading 130mph so some fabia's can have almost accurate speedos

so ner :P

125-127 on GPS, and 130 on the clocks?

Its all very well with all these different tyre combinations.. BUT you still dont take into account the actual difference in rolling radius with different tyre wears etc

the fabia golf and leon are about as aerodynamic as a brick... and why would anyone need to go over 70mph anyway

lol not really it didnt feel massivly stable but it didnt feel like it was going to take off either!!!

The vRS seems to hit a wall at 110mph. Getting to the 128mph rated top speed would be very difficult in standard guise I'd have thought. If a remap opens up the power in the higher end of the rev range it must make for a better top speed. Even if it's not higher it'll get there quicker.

It doesn't hit a wall, but acceleration does tail off. As you would expect...

Remember after 110mph the increments on the speedo are 20mph, not 10mph... So this adds to the illusionm of a dramatic drop in acceleration...

Thats sir, is quite right.

130 indicated, on the airfield at work!! (car is bog standard).

about 90mph

128mph standard, 124mph remapped.

And we all still had to wait for you :P

:D

i hit 135 mph on speedo but my snooper said 133 mph and that was standard. im running 153 bhp now but no difference at top end. :)

Good point. Never thought of it like that. I'm still getting used to the daft speedo increments. :D
