Ok a simple poll, how do you personally drive a diesel

I look forwards to the results :D

Q

My diesel torque starts at around 1500 rpm (over 270 ftlb at 2000rpm) and starts to tail off at around 4200 rpm so I tend to keep between those two figures, there is no point in reving the guts out of it and doing this reasonbly rapid progress can be made

better define "rev it" - if you say for example 3,000rpm is revving it, then fairly often.

well, my peak torque has been raised to 2800rpm, and peak power is nw at 3800rpm, so revving gets the best results - not too far though. Beyond 4000 achieves not a lot, so best to shift up at that point and ride the torque wave again.

My car gets ruined reguarly :D

I use the full available rev range and change up when I feel it running out of puff. Modern diesels are much keener to (productively) rev than the old-skool diesels where you'd be better off changing at 3k....

Chris

Rev it. I like the noise.

I was thinking that on the trip home from work last night @ 2:30am

I tend to change gear around 2,500 on the thing, but I am used to a older diesel (205 GRD) But I hear people giving the diesels alot more revs, when i am out on my daily excercise (Losing the fat at last) and was wondering If I should give my new TDi abit more revs then I do.

The sales person told me that the car likes to get revved, but thought it was him being a boy racer as it were. Now i am thinking is it because modern diesels like to get revved these days..... So I post to get other peoples opinions :D

Also the car feels abit sluggish until I get to 1800 rpm then it is better (I guess it is down to torque or turbo.... being a 1.4TDi I guess thats normal.

What you guys think??

Q

If you don't rev it, the engine will get all clagged up. :D Go on, put your foot down .... you never know, you might like it ;)

Chris

I drive mine like a real granny :(

Maybe I should follow Chris's advice and cane it a bit.

Can't make the economy any worse - I only average 20-24 on the way to work :grumpy:

;)

most TDI lumps seem to like living between 1500- 4000, so I tend to use those areas, making Brisk progress, but not caining the lump

Foot to the floor and prey I make 70 in half a day.

Being a company car, I drive my TDCi like its stolen.

Currently on around 29MPG, but it is still quite new so shall probably loosen up a bit.

I give it a good work out, but not thrashing it - it belongs to the wife :D

amen:thumbup: :D

TDCi= Top Deck Cvnt Installed? LOL!

those lumps have ace in gear accel- 30-70 is ace!

although 29mpg is a bit harsh though

when i do a track day it gets hammered , but normal day to day driving , it only gets revved occasionally followed by a huge plume of soot :(

About 80% of the time my car rarely exceeds 2500rpm, then every now and then I boot it and rev it round to 4500rpm. Although the discipline required to keep the revs (and right foot) light most of the time is immense, the soot cloud is more than worth it when I do open up. :D

I don't drive a diesel

HTH ;)

Most grannies seem to rev the nuts off cars - especially when attempting to park!

i drive mine like im being chased by the cops. :D always seems 2 be a boy racer out there lookin for a go. or is it just me? but dont ever go in the red, always change up in time.

Ive got a good power band and tend o use it every now and then. I have bounced it of the limiter a few times but the car is still producing 200bhp at this stage.

Have you considered some advanced driver training, Jon? There's a chap up your way who's just qualified ... might be able to show you how to drive it properly ;)

Sooooo true!!! Do they think it'll make their steering wheel turn faster when they try and drive forwards into a parking spot and they've completely cocked the angle?

With the turbo im using and with good mapping also, mine will go to 5000rpm without any power tailing off.

I usually drive in the torquey bit (Just under 2k to just over 3k) but occasionally get into the power bit at 4k for a giggle...
